Brumbies and Wallabies lock Mark Chisholm has been ruled out for the rest of the season including the Rugby World Cup with a knee injury he sustained in Super rugby.
The lock was a near certainty for the Wallaby squad for this year’s World Cup and has played 58 tests for his country.
Bayonne bound Chisholm ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament after being tackled by Anthony Faingaa in the A Brumbies’ 22-14 victory over the Reds in Brisbane on Saturday.
“It’s devastating, it’s absolutely devastating,” 29-year-old Chisholm told Reuters.
“I’m in shock. The World Cup is up in smoke now. ”
“That’s a disappointing way to end — especially because of the things I wanted to achieve this year.”
The injury means Chisholm has played his last match for the Brumbies after more than 100 appearances for the team from Australia’s capital and he will undergo surgery before joining French club Bayonne for next season.
