Hougaard gives Bulls a scare

Springbok halfback Francois Hougaard left his Bulls team-mates worrying for a few moments as he pulled up once again with an ankle injury during Tuesday’s training session.

We’ve achieved nothing – Spies

Springbok No 8 Pierre Spies may feel like a renewed man as the Vodacom Bulls continue their resurgence in this year’s Super Rugby competition, but he warned his teammates that they have achieved nothing yet.

Plumtree: Play full 80 minutes

Sharks coach John Plumtree wants his players to be on the alert for the entire 80 minutes in this week’s Super Rugby match against the Bulls in Pretoria as they bid to qualify for the playoffs.

“You have to start well and finish well and it has to be pretty good in between,” said Plumtree.

A resurgent Bulls against a stuttering Sharks. I have to go with my heart on this one, if I want the Sharks to win. But the boys from the coast are renowned for becoming giant killers at the oddest times. Is John Smit just bored, or cruising to the world cup because he doesn’t want an injury? If he gets on the field this weekend then we can be sure him and Plumtree have had that conversation, because in normal circumstances his backside will be very securely stuck to the bench. I want the Boks to be at their best and just hope the guys don’t hurt each other this weekend, thats the last thing we need. Local derbies are hard fought vicious affairs and the Cheetahs and Lions have given all the other local teams a wake up call. I have actually picked the Cheetahs for a win this weekend. With Alberts back (dont know if Deyesel is finished his sentence yet) lets hope he is in the right mood. His last few games he has been inconspicuous and Keegan Daniel and Kanko lacklustre, Ludick has also looked out of sorts. The Sharks have the firepower, do they have the will. We will see on Saturday!

The Sharks have been able to consistently produce a balanced side the last few years. Why not this year? I think their midfield has been ordinary to useless, and their much feared man-mountains in the pack have underperformed at the best of times. Where is the BEEEAAAST? Where is the fireball punch-up power of the du Plessies? Where is the grunt and grind of Alberts?
All these guys need to have an impact an Saturday’s game. For my backline I would pick McCloud, Freddie, Mvovo, Lambie, Jacobs, JPP and Ludik.
Its gonna take serious forward grunt and backline magic to dispel the Bulls this weekend.
If all goes smoothly the Sharks will have a big shout.
As for the Cheetahs winning, I think you will have to have cash to burn to bet on them. No 4 try bonus point for the Stormers though.

Also, dont forget to cheers for the Brumbies. I have a sneaky suspicion they will win, or at least make the Tahs dig very deep. VERY deep.
