When looking at the SA conference and ignoring the matches against overseas teams, our conference make for interesting reading.
I thought it would be interesting to have a look at our conference as a unit on its own, comparing our local derbies only.
Here are the results so far.

Overall there is no doubt that the Stormers is by far our best team in the conference system this year, as they are yet to lose a match. The interesting fact for the Sharks is that they have no home games left.
The possibility is that the sharks after looking rather flat and one dimensional over the past few weeks, may end up in the 4th position in our conference, and the Cheetahs only 1 point behind to overtake them.
Interesting times ahead.
What’s interesting about it?
Same old, same old.
Lions sucking on the hind t1t.
Cheetahs making a concerted effort but will fall short.
Sharks, Stormers and Bulls fighting for the title.
Sharks will fall prey to the Lions in the last round as the Lions win convincingly and proclaim the season a success.
Stormers will cough and splutter their way to a wild card play off somewhere in NZ and will lose convincingly.
Bulls will peak at the right time, get a home playoff and make the final where anything can happen.
This could be a CC log from any year in the last decade!
(All a bit tongue in cheek gents.)
@ Scrumdown:
Sorry Scrumdown (snicker), I thought it would be enlightening to all and sunder, something we haven’t discussed yet.
But then again I find the statistic of calculating how paint dries interesting even though it is quite obvious.
2@ biltongbek:
Lies, damn lies and statistics?
It’s always good to look at facts, but just when you think you’ve got it all sussed out, a team like the Lions go and screw up all of the stat’s.
I guess that’s what makes life so interesting.
@ Scrumdown:
I think you are thinking of something else.
There was a movie “Sex, Lies and videotapes.”
Fact, the Lions have a Super Rugby win ratio of 2/13 in the current season, or just about 15,38%.
Interestingly with Marius Jonker as referee in Super Rugby history the Lions have a win ratio of 0/9. Just about 0%.
Don’t know which stat’ is more interesting as a Lions supporter, but will bear both in mind for this weeks Superbru predictions.
According to supersport the Stormers are in talks with Liefling to help them out at 10.
@ Loosehead:
Sonder tanne gaan hulle Ge se lied opdonner
@ superBul:
Bwahahahahahaha….
@ Scrumdown #1
Then again, the Cheetahs could beat the Bulls, Sharks and Stormers, and the Bulls may end losing the return match at Loftus, and lose to the Stormers! The Stormers are our best shot, which might be a depressing sight, cos they haven’t shown any BMT since 2000!
Bulls have a huge mountain to climb, and the Cheetahs will be asking alot more questions than the Sharks. Against the Sharks, the bulls just had to counter Alberts and Deysel!
Against the Cheetahs, anyone in the team is capable of sparking a outrageous counter, and score with a blink of an eye! It will not be the type of game, the Bulls relish. The Bulls love a simple physical clash. Cheetahs will give that, and be unpredictable with the ball in hand. They have shown the ability to play good tactical kicking rugby, but have countered with great speed and skill!
This is by far the best Super season the Cheetahs have had, and with a very youthful look about them, they can cause havoc in the CC and going into next year. There are only about 4 guys older than 25! With the exception of sarel, and Riaan Viljoen, this is the Cheetahs CC team!
Go Cheetahs!!
@ superBul:
Nee man, dit werk so, die woord liefling word gevorm op die f met die lippe teen mekaar.
As dit Liethling was sou die tanne n’ probleem wees.
Jislaaik, I can only hope that this Liefling storie is unfounded. Based on Friday’s performance, I’ll pick Duvenage anyday.
@ fender:
You and your band could sing the song live from the Railway stand!
10@ Cheetah4eva:
Strauss is playing EXCEPTIONAL Rugby at the moment.
Problem is with JS already a “shoe in” for the WC, would Div consider leaving Bissie out or perhaps taking 3 hookers ala Jake in 2007?
@ Scrumdown:
Puff Divvy will take Ralepele ahead of Strauss.
7/8: hiehiehie ! dankie ou bul, nou weer lekker gelag.
😀
15@ Loosehead:
Highly likely due to pressure from SARU, but ultimately the wrong decision.
@ bdb:
10: CFE, jou span lyk goed, so dit gaan ‘n grote wees Saterdag.
Jannie.
Hey Loosehead, we’re a blues band – we don’t do Gay Korsten numbers!
25@ fender:
Talking about Gay Korsten makes me think back to 1984, when I was in the Army. He’s son was in the Army, same intake as me… he was Gay Korsten, if ever there was a gay one!
@ Scrumdown:
Seems like the last time the Bulls and Stormers played it was the Bulls that did all the coughing and splattering.
Have to agree with you though. Cheetahs are making a great dash for it at the end, but will probably fall short. I predict a single win against SA foe, but who will be the big question.
@ bdb:
I think the biggest sparks this year is the Ebersohn bro’s and both of them, as well as Brussouw and Smith have turned down big offers to stay at the Cheetahs. As for the front row, would the Sharks really buy them, and would they really go there, given the front row they have? Same goes for Johnson.
I PRAY I AM RIGHT.
@ biltongbek:
@ bdb:
Hoekom nom julle hom dan Liefling?
Biltongbek, replying to what you said in comment (2) of “Three NZ teams in the play offs.”
I suppose as far as the Bulls and Sharks are concerned, its all in their own hands now.
I think they can both beat the Tahs and Tahs. Bulls to lose against the Stormers.
Sharks to lose against the Bulls.
All the Sharks have to do is NOT fall short against the Lions, and both teams have picked up three wins in the last 4. VERY possible. Why not?
Cheetahs just need to calm down.
This is typical Sharks….take it easy at home and end up losing. Their backs are now to the wall and this is when they perform best….and perform, they have to, otherwise its middle of the table. I think they will win in Bloem and Ellis Park, then Loftus is the real tester….but last time out, I think there were more Sharks supporters there than Bulls! and that should make the difference.
Must say I would not have a problem if the Cheetahs went through, they are probably the guys who deserve it most.
