Bulls (6) 28 / Highlanders (11) 35 (Final Score)
The Vodacom Bulls hosted the Highlanders at Loftus, Pretoria at 19:10 SA Time. This was the match thread for discussion of the game. The match was broadcast live on SuperSport 1, SHD and M-Net on TV in SA.
The Highlanders continued their unbeaten run and scored a bonus point for tries whilst the Bulls end their unbeaten run at home and only salvaged a bonus point for losing by only 7 points.
It was a disasterous game from a Bulls perspective, with bad refereeing and general bad play and sloppy tackling by all the Bulls players. Today it is frustrating to be a Bulls supporter.

Matfield looked like a highveld thundercloud during the post match interview. I dont reckon the Bulls change room is comfortable place to be right now. And that is a good thing for the Bulls going forward I reckon….
@ fender:
i am worried about the Cappie , he does not stay calm anymore. Maybe we must rest him a game or 2. Look i really dont understand why Bakkies plays 50 min, Danie plays 50 min, Flip plays 50 minutes but Victor never get substituted.
He is getting too big in our team.
Tell you what, Super. If you ouens don’t want him anymore, you can always donate him to us. 😉
@ superBul:153 – For sure Super, Hope to be up early to blog with you during the cricket. Should be good.
Go Proteas.
Bull supporters, this is only one loss. Take heart many will lose a game or two at home. This tourney very long this year.
Okay I am out of here.
Cheers all. Catch up during the cricket tomorrow morning.
@ fender:
Fender NO NO NO, he stays right here. But sometimes it is good to watch the game from the stands to open your mind a bit.But then again FduP had months in the stand.
Guys dont get me wrong i still believe they are the best, but you cant concentrate on the ball if you are busy with the ref all the time. FduP gave/left 3 balls behind the scrum away.
aagh anyway we can fix things, we have the players to do it.
Every team will lose at least 3 games this year, we have lost our first.
@ superBul:
exactly super its what i said way back eatlier too ass you know
Matfield is not the best of captains and it shows as he gets to emosional with the ref
and it rubs off on his team mates
@ Puma:
puma did you see the game starts at 6
@ sharky_forever:
there is a fine line between , knowing you are right and arrogance.
If there is such a thing as good time to loose, this was it for the Bulls, bringing them down the earth a bit….they can only do better than yesterday, a hell of a lot better…
I really thought Stu had a a good game. He marshalled the breakdown quite well. The replays showed he was on the money!
Matfield got it wrong with Stuey…I think he had lost the game in his mind before he walked on the pitch.
FDP needs to concentrate more on getting the ball out of the breakdown than worrying what people are doing around him….at least 4 times he threw his arms in the air trying to convince a penalty out of the ref.
@ Wallabie.:
your 3 comments are almost spot on, i only disagree on the Wallabie. wrote:
Bulls fought back hard and in fact almost steal a deserved draw. That last hand in the scrum saved the Landers.
The Highlanders did get away with a lot, or are we again misinterpreting the laws?
I was so tired of Sport yesterday after the Proteas spoiled my day but reading this banter on Sport24 changed my mind. It is still OK.

Wow, makes me laugh when i see SOME of you SA supporters completely bag the opposition..I love it from a NZ point of view.. How the hell is your national team going to play as a team? when there is such negative people in SA.. In NZ we support our local team and then we support other NZ teams..Can’t believe how much hatred there is between Bulls/Stormers supporters.. If your team loses get over it.
Teams can have flat days as well as some players

@Crusader man- you just don’t understand SA traditions man.We enemies number 1 when it comes to provincial sides and best of friends when they play together for Springboks. When we where isolated from world rugby we had to play again each other to entertain ourselfs. Its the same as you guys playing England. Now tell me you love the POMS. Now go away!!
@ Wallabie.:
Walla
Couldn’t agree more with you.
While the ‘Landers were offloading at the moment of contact (or an instant before) to a man IN SUPPORT, the Bulls chose to try to make contact, run over the opposition, WAIT for the support to arrive as the ruck formed, and then FDP slowed it down even further by gesticulating to all (or the few) who cared to listen (or not) about some or other perceived infringement.
Let’s face it, not one of the Lions, Bulls, Stormers or Cheetahs produced ANY Rugby of a decent international standard.
Whether the Ref’s were instrumental in “killing” off the games as fair contests I wouldn’t like to say, but I will say this, Kaplan was inconsistent and is fast becoming the pre-madonna of world Rugby’s officials.
He seems to have no interest in the player’s / captain’s concerns or points and does not seem to be consistent in his application of the rules.
Dickenson is also very inconsistent and let’s say that he has a “special” place in SA supporters hearts which is re-enforced by his perceived one sidedness when refereeing SA sides. (Can all SAFFAS be wrong EVERY week?)
And then we come to Mr Logoete. IMO he’s just not Super Rugby referee quality.
I didn’t see the Sharks game so can’t comment on any aspect of it, but looking at results and the games I’ve watched thus far, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Sharks are the only SA team to qualify for the play-off’s. (Hate to say that!)
Bulls were taught a Rugby lesson, Lions were outclassed, and the Stormers and Cheetahs looked like they wouldn’t have scored a try between them if they were still playing now.
SA Rugby does not look healthy I’m afraid.
wel,
soes steve hofmeyer sing
..
