It has been confirmed by the Sharks and in so doing put an end to it just being a rumour, Yes 31 year old Marius Joubert will be joining the Sharks as soon as his team Clermont Auvergne who are currently leading the standings in the French league complete their season.
Sharks CEO Brian van Zyl has confirmed that the 31 year old centre has joined the Sharks on a two year deal.
Should they make the final of the competition on 4 June, he will only be able to join after. This still puts the player in prime position to play in the final round robin games, which end on 18 June against the Bulls.
In the 2004 Tri-Nations title, where the Springboks won Joubert was instrumental in victory as he scored that blistering hat trick against the All Blacks to seal it for the Boks.
We look forward to Marius joining us and we wish him all the best for his last few months at Clermont.
not a bad signing i know some will say but he is over 30 , but i see this as a senior very experienced player to work with the new kids on the block coming through
Piet Lindeque
Paul Jordaan
Vulindlu
Jerome Pretorius
and a few others
@ sharky_forever:1 – Brudda, I am pleased Joubert is coming, but yes he is 31 years old. He will have another year max 2 in him. I would like to see us play some of our youngsters in the CC get them ready for SuperRugby next year. Like you say Joubert comes with experience and will be good for the youngsters, but we must not neglect our youngsters. They our future.
Some great young players we have.
For now wish we had Joubert coming right now though. Not later in this S15.

This brings back memories of one of my best fights on voldys. I wanted him and the wet barry out . But the big debate was the roll Maruis played in those 3 tries. Many a guy said that their grandma could have scored them too. GBS can you remember that?
The Sharks ALREADY has an old No 13…. Oupa Stefan… now they’ve signed Oupa Marius…
Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy????
Oh and the Sharks have another old age pensioner at No 13…. Adi Jacobs.
The youngsters like Vulindlu and those guys not good enough?
Tell you what… the Bulls will buy Vulindlu, I will set the ball rolling for that with Ian Schwartz at the Bulls on Saturday when I see him…. see if the Sharkies like me then…. hehehe
3@ superBul:
I can’t possibly remember ALL the fights I was involved in on Voldy….. hehehe
I was a bit fiery back then….. hiehiehie
