The Crusaders match against the Sharks match at Twickenham has been confirmed for March 27 at 4pm local time.
England’s Rugby Football Union have agreed to host the match on the Sunday as the previous date clashed with Harlequins playing Gloucester at the Twickenham Stoop in the Aviva Premiership.
The Crusaders however requested that the match be played on Sunday the 27th of March and following consultations with police and television partners was accepted.
The match will kick off at 4pm and tickets will go on sale on Tuesday afternoon, from Ticketmaster and£5 from each ticket sold will go to the the earthquake appeal run by the Red Cross charity.
The Twickenham match will be the first Super rugby match to be held outside the three Sanzar countries – South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.
An RFU spokesperson said,”It’s fantastic news that we were able to find a date that would enable us to host the game as the centrepiece of a weekend of fundraising for the people of Christchurch.
“Having some of the southern hemisphere’s best players on display at Twickenham will be a treat for all English-based fans of the Super 15.”
“It is great to see the rugby family pull together for such a worthy cause and we would like to thank all our stakeholders for their flexibility and support in making this happen.
“We now have less than two weeks to get tickets sold so we would urge supporters to get online and buy soon.”
RFU spokesman Peter Thomas told New Zealand’s Radio Live they expected a large turnout for the match.
“We know we’ve got 900 000 South Africans in the London metropolitan area, 600 000 Australians and a quarter of a million Kiwis, so we’re hoping they’ll come out for it,” Thomas said.
More Details on ticketing will be released shortly.
ah ok, I see this is happening now.
@ 4man:1 – Howzit 4man. You gonna go to that game? Should be a great game if the weather allows for it.
Just hope all the travel don’t affect our Sharks, especially that we play Stormers only 6 days after we get back.
@ 4man:4man, I did you fall asleep or what? ..lol. See you still logged on.
Out of here now. Catch up tomorrow.
@ Puma:
yep we get the tickets tonight. Weather doesnt worry us, but it should be fine at the end of March anyway….all sunny days now.
I used to go to these games in the old Super 12 days when The Sharks played a once off against Harlequins at The Stoop just before the start of the Super Rugby season.
Those kak stands would be full to capacity with expat fans.
