Os du Randt has been axed as the Springboks’ scrumming consultant.Os du Randt confirmed to Sport24 on Tuesday that he had been informed in writing by the South African Rugby Union (SARU) that his contract as scrumming consultant will not be renewed and that he will therefore not be part of the Boks’ World Cup management team.
“I am obviously disappointed, especially as Peter (De Villiers, the Springbok coach) had told me that I have the so-called x-factor that he needs in his World Cup management team. And now the x-factor is staying at home,” said the former Springbok prop.
A shortage of money is apparently the main reason being offered by SARU as to why his contract is not being extended.
The former Bok prop, who played in the World Cup-winning teams of 1995 and 2007, was brought in as consultant by De Villiers ahead of last year’s Tri-Nations. He also was part of the management team that toured with the Boks on their recent end-of-season trip to Britain and Ireland.
“I had already arranged my life as if I would be involved with the Boks until after the World Cup. I have rented out my farm and bought a house in Bloemfontein,” said Du Randt.
Du Randt’s farm is in the Theunissen district.
However, Du Randt is not unemployed. He has a contract as the Cheetahs’ scrumming coach for the duration of the Super Rugby competition and there is a possibility that it may be extended by coach Naka Drotské.
Sport24 previously reported a number of overseas club sides, and international teams that will be participating in the World Cup from September that are interested in Du Randt’s services.
However, he did not negotiate as he was under the impression that his Bok contract was going to be renewed.
Du Randt does not exclude the possibility of linking up with an overseas team in the future.
Meanwhile, there has been speculation that consultants may be added to the Springbok management.
SARU denied last year that they were in the process of hiring consultants after it appeared that the positions of assistant coaches Dick Muir and Gary Gold were in jeopardy.
Western Province director of coaching Rassie Erasmus and ex-Wallaby coach Eddie Jones, who assisted former Bok coach Jake White in 2007, are being mentioned as possible consultants.
DIK SWAK!
Ag please, mentioned by whom? Sport 24 reports through their arses. Jake White is a glory boy, he will NEVER share the pedestal with De Villiers, and neither will his close accomplice Mr. Jones.
@ The Saint:
You are right Saint, he wont share the pedestal with White and Jones as he won’t win the World Cup.
Yet they keep Dick Muir.. FOR FARK SAKES MAN, WHERE IS THE LOGIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saru are totally USELESS.
Also they can never tell us they don’t have the money. Rubbish, not sure who will believe that. They have a huge sponsor in Absa and will make huge amounts of money this S15.
Fools for letting Oz go.
All just part of corporate reshuffling, the OS most likely did something or said something he should not have.
SARU is farking up our National team’s aspirations to remain a top three nation, they have been doing so for quite some time, it is actually astounding that despite all this, by pure quality of our Super Franchises, and despite some controversial selections of players, coaches, assistant coaches that we have been relatively successful.
SA rugby seems to be more and more about anything but being the best.
jaaaa ne….
Slaan my met ‘n plank…. hoe dof kan SARU wees!
@ biltongbek:
Maybe Os didn’t meet the ABSA dictated requirements in terms of cultural background, ethnic diversity and communication methodology.
@ Scrumdown:
Correct, I was trying to say that in a political correct way.
@ biltongbek:
Well I’m not PC, and it’s got me into trouble before, but I’m too old and too full of sh1t to change now.
Say it how it is, then everyone knows what you mean.
@ Scrumdown:
Ek is juis ook in die poef for speaking my mind by die dept of coruptionale services
@ smallies72:
Het my werk verloor laas jaar agv dit, maar toughies.
I don’t think our scrum has been that great under Os’s tutelege.
We should get an Argentinian or Kiwi scrum coach, those front rows are consistently better than ours.
As far as him being a nice guy…no question, sorry to see him go he is an absolute gentleman who is much admired around the world. Maybe the Freestate is the right sized stage for him.
No-one can rescue our scrum… the players must decide to improve, anything else is merely hogwash…
@ 4man:
Truth is our props are not taught to scrum.
Even at club level a technically correct prop will be left out for a bigger lad even if the smaller guy murders his bigger compatriot in a tight session.
I don’t have the answers but I know the problem.

ok begin nou weer lees …
“Os du Randt confirmed to Sport24 on Tuesday that he had been informed in writing by the South African Rugby Union (SARU) that his contract as scrumming consultant WILL NOT BE RENEWED” … so what i understand from “not being renewed” is that the contract os had with the boks (or sarugby for that sake) has reached its END!!
…
i’m not saying that i agree with sarugby on this,
bot
how the f*ck
can a journalist (and i’m not refering to you here, super)
go
on
and say that os was booted out by sarugby? 😯
…
that is just poor journalism!!
scrumdown @ 12

“I am obviously disappointed, especially as Peter (De Villiers, the Springbok coach) had told me that I HAVE the so-called x-factor … ”
