Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske has dropped his captain from last week, Naas Olivier, and brought back Heinrich Brüssow in his team to face the Lions.
Drotske has given the captaincy to Andries Strauss as Sias Ebersohn has replaced Olivier who drops to the bench and Riaan Viljoen replaces Hennie Daniller.
In the forwards Martin Muller comes in for Waltie Vermeulen and Wilhelm Steenkamp has been given the Vice Captaincy.
Philip van der Walt replaces Francois Uys and Kabamba Floors drops to the bench for Brüssow.
The Cheetahs are currently in last place on the Super rugby standings but they host the Lions this week who are one place above them on the table.
Strauss will be the fourth Cheetahs captain in as many matches. In their season opening match the now injured hooker Adriaan Strauss was captain.
In Round two Juan Smith regained the captaincy – albeit for just two minutes – and then last week Olivier was captain.

Not a good idea.
Naka getting desperate and I feer that Brussow is going to suffer the same fate as Juan
In what way is Naka desperate, he has allowed Brussow to ease back into the swing of things. I think, he has handled Brussow the same as any other coach would have! Desperate would have been playing him against the Buls or even the Sharks. Try be objective!
As for Juan, he played because his calf strain allowed him too, his injury was an achilles tendon, freakish, but unrelated!!
@ Pam Anderson:
If Brussow gets injured again, we will explain the ‘desperation’ to you again.
@ The Saint, That quite convenient! If my uncle had tits he would be my aunt!! Would any coach have kept playing Brussow in the VC??
I seriously doubt it! Get off your little prejudiced perceptions and give Naka credit, for not really rushing Brussow back!! Naka has managed it the same as any other coach would have done, given his value. You think Ludeke would have Fourie du Preez play six VC games before starting him?? Pluuuuheeese, get real!!
Objective? Fark now you have me laughing!
So being objective is to rather play him against the Lions as opposed to any other team.
Objective is not to consider he has played in 2 VC matches after almost a year on the sidelines?
Objective is not to consider that on Monday Naka himself said Brussow must still play a full 80 min in the VC side and feels he is not yet fit enough for Superrugby?
Why the sudden change of heart – has he become miraculously fit enough in 2 days?
Yeah, its far too subjective to you two.
I’ll give credit to Naka for his spectacular record of what, 8 wins in 40 outings I think? That’s truly brilliant indeed.
@Pam !!
You do your name proud! “read” Blonde of dubious intelligence!! The change of heart is because Frans Viljoen hasn’t recovered, and no, Brussow didn’t become fit in two days, he was fit enough to start, but Naka in a perfect world would have prefered to given him more time.
As for your snide comment about giving Naka credit, well I said give him credit re his handling of Brussow. Not that your opinion of Naka would be very important anyway.
At least kon ou Naka darem, ‘n beker en ‘n hele rits finals aan mekaar coach, of hoe??
hoeveel van die finals wat jy so oor spog was te danke aan die feit dat die bokke nie mag gespeel het nie?hoekom klink 37-10 so bekend?
@ Piet,
Maar jy is a WP ondersteuner?
Verstaan jy nou my redenasie.
Good to see Brussow back. Boks gonna need him and for sure Cheetahs do as well. Really looking forward to seeing play this weekend.
@ Cheetah4eva:
His words, not mine that he wasn’t fit enough.
Why not put him on the bench then and play Kabamba?
@ Cheetah4eva:
That would be 1 CC and 1 final in 2007 and 2009 respectively? Don’t recall any boks playing in 2007 when FS beat the Lions.
@ Pam, nope to my knowledge, the boks weren’t present in the 2007 final, much good it did the Boks. I just think, that the Cheetahs deserve credit for doing so well in the past decade, especially in the CC. They used to lose an average of 4 1st choice players every year, and have very few big name players, yet they have made the semi’s of the CC 11/11, that takes some doing, seeing that we can account for 2003, 2007, which were WC years!!
Now that is not too shabby!! They played in the 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 finals. They lost to the Bulls in 2004, beat the Bulls narrowly in 2005 (The Bulls will say it was a lucky bounce) drew in 2006, and I am sure there were no Springboks missing in 2004/2005 or 2006. So give credit where credit is due!!
Go Cheetahs
@ Cheetah4eva:
The FS has done very well this past decade, well done to them and that in spite of losing a lot of players.
Still pissed off from the 2006 final I watched live in Bloem when the Bully boys preferred shagging their sister as opposed to going for a win.
That was pre-Naka days though and I still don’t like him as a coach. Besides the 07 CC and the final in 09 he hasn’t achieved a helluva lot, and despite getting some more wins in the S14 last year I don’t see them getting above 10th in the S15.
In CC they do very well primarily bacause the boks are out and they are not disrupted as much, and when we get to the knockouts we know players’ guts can achieve anything on the day.
I still have my jersey I bought that day 🙂
@ Pam Anderson:
dude brussow said HE feels he is not fit enough not naka duh….
@ Cheetah4eva:
hahahaha, yes. AC and Rassie would have played him tere until he gained grey hair, not just experience.
In fact, dis ‘n moer goeie span.
Punt is. C’MON LIONS!
