Too boo or not to boo. When I read this article and thought of changing all these names with Bulls names, it might be a fitting report of how the Bulls fans feel after this weekend.
We did not boo, not that I can remember, but many left early. Another South African team also went to booing but sadly it was directed towards one player. That I feel was a bit harsh. Like one Lion supporter commented why boo one player when the whole team was dismal in that game.
The article from Aussie Land by Greg Growden.
It took an eternity, but long-suffering Waratahs supporters have let their true feelings be known. Not once, not twice, but three times on Saturday night the Waratahs were booed by their own fans after they seemed to give up against the Cheetahs, a bottom-placed bunch of battlers, who had never won outside South Africa.
The Waratahs were jeered just after half-time, given another burst at full-time, and still another five minutes later when some of the players appeared on the huge screen at the Sydney Football Stadium.
Having covered the Waratahs since the early 1980s, Monday Maul has sat through many an inexplicable Waratahs loss, but never have the boos rung out louder, longer, nor with as much venom as they did after the loss to the Cheetahs.
What made the Cheetahs result even more exasperating was that this was to have been a night for the true believers. It was wet, and the opposition were supposed easybeats.
The Waratahs had promised so much in the trials and the opening rounds, playing exciting, attacking football, and it was widely thought they would use their first game of the year at the SFS to prove they were the standout Australian team.
Instead, it was a fiasco. All they proved was that they are the laziest Australian team.(Bulls?) The fans can forgive their loss to the Crusaders in Nelson two weeks ago. But not this. The Waratahs underestimated the Cheetahs and, after finding gaps in their defence early on, believed they were in for an easy night. However, after five minutes they ran out of ideas.(not trying to sound like The Saint , but did the Bulls have a idea at all) The lineout was off. They were outplayed at the breakdown. Virtually every scrum ended in a penalty or a free kick. They seemed ponderous, relying too much on chip kicks or one-out play. Their handling was awful. And the fringe players who had been given opportunities in the starting XV failed to impress.
Without sidelined skipper Phil Waugh, the home side lacked leadership. Waugh would have gathered the players together and given them a stern word. Unchecked, they became progressively worse. So much for their leadership group(our leadership group was really poor).
At least replacement skipper Dean Mumm was correct when he said the Waratahs did not panic. To panic, you have to be alert, frantic even. The Waratahs were never frantic, and far from alert. They were just lethargic.
The lack of cohesion was even apparent in the team huddle after the game, with back-line players missing after having already slunk off to the dressing rooms. One who did stay was heckled by fans as he walked down the players’ tunnel.
At the same time, a fan wandered past the press box, asking if anyone wanted to buy his Waratahs membership for $5. There were no takers.
Another fan in full Waratahs garb raised his arms to the heavens in exasperation. Long-time supporters were debating as they left the ground whether they had witnessed the worst NSW performance of all time. Others argued it was the worst Super rugby game they had seen.
For a province that prides itself on its ”brand”, maybe it’s time for a big rethink. You can have all your giveaways, promotions and Sydney spiv sales talk, what matters is what happens on the field. If the team is playing rubbish, people will not turn up. As was clear on Saturday night, Waratahs fans are no mugs.
Same feeling down here in Bulls land , if you read the comments on various Rugby sites you will see that Bull supporters are more worried than their experienced team and highly successful team management.
Last year we played a much more exciting game plan in the early part of the season, we had our opponents guessing and although we conceded a lot of tries , we scored more than our opponents.
Another sad thing about the Bulls is the penalty count. Where did we lose it? This highly experienced team is making far to many mistakes. What changed since last year? Even worse is the attitude of players. The Referees run onto the field aggrieved by our constant bickering. There is a negative vibe around. Is it coming from one side?
It is NOW the time for the Bulls to show that the EXPERIENCE they brag about can pull them out of this.
Since almost all WP supporters disappeared here when their team was humiliated the past 10 years let me give my own team something to think about. This is what will come in if you dont get your act together very soon.
For sale: nose ring, horns and baby blue paint. Won’t be needed for the next decade
I almost feel sorry for those bulls. The players that is, not those pathetic inbred blue stained losers who pretend to shout for their team while they are winning until they start losing and then turn their hairy unwashed backs on them. What’s with the hordes of baby blue leaving the stadium before the end? Why even pitch up in the first place? It really doesn’t take a Japanese nuclear physicist to figure out just how left behind and rubbish the baby blues are this year (just take a look at their vodacom side losing their 4th in a row). So where is all this we are the greatest and have the best support etc. all I see are a bunch of hideous overweight mullet wearing nose pierced horn wearing hypocrites.
Instead of twitting and blogging and attending Golf days , Victor get these type of messages in your head and show the bloody pretenders. 😆 They come out full blaze now, so early. Nothing new from the Stormpopies.
“lets all just take a moment and marvel at the unbeaten Stormers (who should have won by a much bigger margin after dominating every facet of the game). And a big thank you to the bulls and Loftus for playing the Stormers as well as Habana back into form. It is promising to be a memorable season, unless you have a pierced nose that is…”
KP ek moes net die copy , sorry maat dat jy wat n Luke hater is die aan ons toesnou , great man. I love it.
Hy is beslis beter as Spies!!”
Agree, it is really sad, when fans are fair weather supporters! Unfortunately a team won’t always win! True fans stay with their team through good and bad times. Bulls will bounce back!
@ Cheetah4eva:
that is a fine line we are walking. What are the options.
Wait until we lose 5 games
Stay away
Boo
Walk out
Let me tell you this WE wont accept 10 dry years, never. The worst dry run we had was 4 years.
So call it over reaction if you like, but without ME claiming super status , even if i am to be the first of many who openly say NO to this, we wont tolerate this much longer.
We also act fast because we dont want to clutch for straws like the Lions. Loftus must not be empty like the Coke tin.
So, wat is volgende ?

Bring terug daai stilbly dae.
Onthou jy is net so goed soos jou laaste game. Jul celebrity status is moer toe. En ek de moer in. 😀
NB>
Dalk is alles n oe verblindery …
Dit was nogal lekker op Loftus, veral die laaste 10 minute, toe die mense rondom my begin huis toe gaan, baie been spasie…
@ The Saint:
