The Highlanders hosted the Chiefs at Carisbrook, Dunedin at 08:35 SA Time. This was the match thread for discussion of the game. The match was broadcast live on SuperSport 1 & CSN on TV in SA.

Wellington – Wellington Hurricanes centre Ma’a Nonu’s ban for a dangerous tackle in the opening encounter of the Super rugby season has been extended after this weekend’s match against the Canterbury Crusaders was called off.
The All Black was scheduled to miss Saturday’s match after being handed a one-week ban for a shoulder barge which caught international team mate Jimmy Cowan in the neck during the match against the Otago Highlanders last week.
It was clarified, however, in the light of the match against the Crusaders being called off in the wake of Tuesday’s deadly earthquake in Christchurch.
With the Hurricanes having a bye in week three, Nonu, who may appeal, will now miss the match against the Waikato Chiefs on March 12.
“A suspension from playing rugby must be a real one, and not a notional one,” Nigel Hampton, the judicial officer for governing body Sanzar, said in a statement. – Reuters
Bryan Habana is the best wing in the world.
There would have been few protests at such a statement a few seasons ago, but Stormers backline coach Robbie Fleck emphasised it here again on Thursday just before the Cape team’s Super Rugby campaign gets under way this weekend.
“There is not anyone else that I would rather have. Bryan is the best wing in the world,” said Fleck.
He better show it this year or the heading will change to-
Bryan Habana was the best wing in the world in the previous decade.
wonder how many tries he will leak this season going for the intercept!!!! I must say I do hope he finds his mojo again as he really was awesome.
Helllllooooooooooooooooooo
Funny, drizzly weather today here in The Panne!

Ag FOK (let wel, sonder die “L”) ), ek is al gatvol vir Bryan Habana en die seisoen het nog nie eers vir hom begin nie. FOKKEN has-been!
Players coming out of the tunnel…. we should have a special dedication to the victims of the Quake in Christchurch, before the game….
There’s the pipes….

Hello Maiki
Game ON!!
Landers like to play direct rugby… they earn the 1st kickable penalty on about the Chiefs 10m line, middle of the field.
Sapoaga misses
Penalty advantage again to the Landers, which turns into a penalty… easier one than the one before
First Blood for the Landers
Landers 3 / 0
Aggenee, ek hik myself farktup
Penalty for Chiefs, right in front
3 / 3
Landers doing all of the constructive play so far… hard bunch of forwards they have.
Penalty Landers… and Sapoaga makes it 6 / 3 for the Landers
Adam Thompson is a “BIG UNIT”…
Penalty Chiefs and opportunity to make it even.
6 / 6
Try Mike Delany for the Chiefs….. must say he looks miles better than Stephen Donald on attack
Chiefs 13 / 6
halloooo maiki, skuus kom chat so tussen die werk deur
24@ Tripples:
Not to worry… ek werk ook, doen die game so tussendeur
Chiefs have a star-studded backline… but the Landers have these hard bastards in the forwards….. makes for an interesting tussle.
Lelia Masaga puts in a tremendous hit… but gives himself a lammie on the left shoulder or upper arm… seems Ok now though
Jaimie Macintosh, Landers captain, getting some serious treatment on the field…. does not look good for him… after his injuries woes last year
ek het natuurlik Highlanders op vir ‘n wen 🙁
Penalty Chiefs… Delany misses the attempt.
