The HSBC Sevens World Series Tournament concluded in Wellington, New Zealand.
New Zealand won this Tournament at home against England by 29 / 14.
The results were not good for South Africa overall, they won their opening game against Canada and then lost against France of all nations on day one, drew with Fiji on day 1, lost to Australia in the Cup Quarters, won against Wales and lost to Fiji in the Plate final! So it was 2 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses… not good enough!

Fark, the Sevens Blitzbokkies are now regressing under Treu again.
Time for a new mentor, fresh ideas, new inspiration.
We lost to France, for goodness sakes, who are not at all a force in World Sevens, not even remotely!
Hmmm se ook daar moet verandering kom…
gbs @ 1
1. i think the blitsbokke only performed well under treu so far
2. we’re missing the likes of cecil afrika (who’s been our playmaker)
3. we still couldve won the game against france … according to reports ranfred deyzel stepped on the deadball-line as he (after he cross over for the try) tried to go and score under the posts
and
we threw away an oppertunity with the last movement of the game
4. who would take over from treu?
5. do we really have the talent to be competitive in the 7’s arena?
2@ Tripples:
Hello Maiki….
Janee man, ek beginne nou beflok raak met die Blitzbokke…. dissie lekker nie!
Blitzbokke up against Fiji now… and it’s broadcast on SS1
Fiji 7 / 0 ahead… 1 min left in 1st half.
Nee man, hul doen nie eers die basics reg nie. ‘n Paar keer twee bokke op een Fiji, wat elke keer overlap vir Fiji veroorsaak.
Twee overlaps, dan breek hy binne toe ?
Still Fiji 7 / 0…. 3 min to go in the game
Tryyyyyyyyyyyyyy Branco du Preez, under the sticks
7 / 7
Argggggggggg, knocked on over the try line…. by Jordaan… damn.
Game drawn…. fark, why did they not take that last penalty to posts…. silly, silly… time was already up!
Teen wie speel ons volgende ?
13@ bdb:
Ons is klaar vir vandag, sal na die laaste 2 game wat vandag nog moet kom sien wie ons more speel.
O donner, we play Australia tomorrow in the quarters for the Cup… and Australia has been very bloody strong, ending 1st in their Pool!
gbs @ 15
aussies do have a very good 7’s team … dont think we will beat them
..
and as you’ve started the discussion around the 7’s team this morning … what do you think will be the solution to get us back on track again?
16@ Ashley:
I feel the solution is 3-fold:
1. Get a new coach in, for a fresh perspective in style of play. (Don’t misunderstand me, Treu has served well but the Blitzbokke are now too predictable and have been too slow to develop new avenues… they’ve stagnated).
2. Compared to the trend in ALL the other good sides to use bigger players, SA is still using smaller and supposedly faster players, opting for agility rather than a good mix of aggression and guile and speed combined. Bigger players, therefore, is part of the solution.
3. The available Sevens Pool in SA seem to be players far away from the fringe of the 15-man game… no experienced Currie Cup players, No Super Rugby players, no possible Springbok 15’s players of the future. In stead we have youngsters out of school, development players and generally players who won’t make it in Senior 15’s Rugby. So, I say SARU must avail the Sevens coach of more Fringe Springboks, Super Rugby Athletes, Currie Cuppers! It is vital we do that now already with a view to Sevens becomming an Olympic Sport in the not too distant future…. where we NEED to do well.
Who should be the new coach…. slaan my met ‘n nat vis, ek weetie…. but what I can tell you is that it needs to be a Backline man, someone who understands and appreciates running lines and space and backline defensive structures, maybe someone like Fleckie or Slapchips or someone of such ilk.
Anyway, I must be on my bicycle…. need to go to Boksburg and back, then later to Midrand (3 places) and back….
Speak later.
Cheers all.
Off to pack the golf clubs and head North-West.
The Gary Player Country Club is calling.
Lekker Naweek / Nice Weekend.

i’m with you on point 3 of your comment … and i think thats our biggest challenge!!
i cant comment on our strategies unfortunately … dont know the 7’s game THAT well … played only 1 7’s game in my life (at club level)… swore to never do it again .. you wont believe the amount of energy you spend in the few minutes on the field …
but then
i’ve played that single game while 7’s (in sa at least) were still wearing diapers
and
back then we did everything at speed …. 😆 no wonder i was so spent!!
