Vodacom Bulls scrumhalf Fourie du Preez will captain the Bulls side that will play a Premier’s XV in Nelspruit on Saturday.

With regular captain Victor Matfield ruled out due to a neck strain, coach Frans Ludeke handed over the armband to vice-captain Du Preez for the clash.

Wynand Olivier, Bjorn Basson, Du Preez, Danie Roussouw, Gary Botha and  Gurthrö Steenkamp, who all either missed the November international tour due to injury or picked up injuries on that tour, have all been included.

Basson will also make his debut for the Bulls after being signed from Griquas.

Stephan Dippenaar is the sole survivor from the starting team that lost to the Kings in Port Elizabeth last weekend.

Jaco Pretorius (back), Francois Hougaard (foot), Victor Matfield (neck), Flip van der Merwe (ankle) and Juandré Kruger (finger) were not considered due to injury while Werner Kruger has been given the weekend off due to personal reasons.

Bulls: Zane Kirchner, Gerhard van den Heever, Stephan Dippenaar, Wynand Olivier, Bjorn Basson, Morne Steyn, Fourie du Preez (c), Pierre Spies, Dewald Potgieter, Deon Stegmann, Danie Rossouw, Bakkies Botha, Rossouw de Klerk, Gary Botha, Gurthrö Steenkamp.

Rossouw De Klerk? Any news on him? Where is the normal tighthead? His name escapes me.

After reports on last weeks game am surprised to see Brummer on the bench would have thought the coaches would have liked to see Fouche have another go, or have they maybe already made their mind up about Fouche and are just giving Brummer a last chance to get into the squad.

    Hmm, very interesting selections indeed.

Does it show that Ludeke has no faith in the wannabee’s, or has he decided that 2 loses in a row is not good for morale?

They’re basically playing a “pick up” team, so there shouldn’t be too much opposition really.

Bulls by a truck full IMO.

    @ Ashley:
At long last you see the light Ashley, although maybe you’re just ‘hedging your bets’ 🙂

    12@ superBul:
Dont’t think its such a bad move by the Lions superBul, as long as its made clear that he is there as a backup to Jantjies and Burton. Seems to be a lot of youngsters in their backs and his experience should be quite valuable to them. Maybe this is also a clearer signal of the Lions really targetting Currie Cup success by bringing in these players in so late in the season, so they could be around to add depth when the Springboks are not playing, don’t know the detail but would think Springbok players participation should be limited in the Currie Cup, so unless the Boks don’t play along and actually pick Butch and the Ulsterman this would help strengthen the Lions compared to Bulls Sharks who will be missing lots of Springboks.

djy wiet mos … i loooooooooove to hate the bulls

anyway … i do believe that of all the sa franchises the bulls are the most professional
    and
that they are the one province that by now (i think) have a clear plan of how they’re gonna managed their boks!!

    @ Bullscot:
he is a good buy , all depends how much they payed. But if you take it from my view. Can you recall any flyhalve the Bulls bought with such a high profile. We trust our pivot position to our own. Naas, young. Hougaart young although he came from the Cape. Morne with us for years. I even see that the younger Jantjies is with us too.

The 9/10 posie in Bulls rugby is for loyal boykies. Well thats how i see it through my blue tinted glasses.
