Supersport Preview
A consistent South Africa will have a clear edge over the unpredictable West Indies in Thursday’s Group B match at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.
One of the best teams never to have won a World Cup, South Africa’s aspirations could be gauged from the fact that they have packed three frontline spinners of different styles for the World Cup in the region where the tweakers thrive most.
At the same time, they have contemporary cricket’s deadliest pace pair in Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel, one who thrives on pace while the other prefers bounce to torment the batsmen.
“There is always a place for genuine pace. I don’t think anybody likes to face people who bowl at 155 kph. If someone tells you they enjoy it, they are lying to you,” skipper Graeme Smith said.
They have a formidable line-up with Jacques Kallis and Hashim Amla as the batting mainstays.
In contrast, twice champions West Indies lack the depth or variety of their opponents but in Chris Gayle, they have a player who can turn a game on its head on his day.
AB on 74 already from only 70 balls
The Titans in the team doing well…. hehehe (We’ll count Tahir as a Titan)
Biff out… dragged it on, his old sickness
Smith chopped on OUT
Pollard to Smith, OUT
GC Smith b Pollard 45 (78b 2×4 0x6) SR: 57.69
Oh no, he totally missed it… and it just kept coming in
Steady now Dumini… no need to start fast… just put bat on ball and work it around a bit
@ grootblousmile:241 – Tahir is a Dolphin now..hehe.
Damn with Smit gone hope we don’t have a collapes. That can happen with us.
AB’s eye is so solidly in now… keep going AB!
AB doing well here, but don’t want to talk to soon. Looks really tough to bat out there. Still a long way to go.
@ grootblousmile:Snap.
Duminy just needs to rotate the strike so that AB gets most of the ball to bat with
150 up for SA
Only 69 runs and it is ours. Hang in boys. Can’t lose a wicket now.
We lose a wicket now, it could go all pear shape like it did for WI. Just must not lose a wicket. Looks really tough for batting.
Wonder why Smith bowled first?
They look in a hurry now , dominating the bowlers. This one is ours , it will be the shock of the century if we lose this one
254@ Puma:
I like the idea of chasing a target.
@ Puma:
we can lose 2 , it wont matter they are beaten.
Only 50 needed to win… 8 wickets and more than enough balls in hand
We can easily do it in singles now… less than 3 runs per over needed
I think there is bonus points for winning in 40 overs, not sure but that normally settles the log if there is a tie.
But on second thought i think in WC the nett run rate is the decider
Looks hot and humid there.
7 an over from hereon in will see us home in under 40 overs
@ grootblousmile:
India net run rate 1.740
O donner… they’re expecting rain there which might prevent AB from scoring his 100.
We are looking fine according to Luckworth / Doos….. hehehe
Rain on the way maybe it will rob AB from a very likely 100
Come on AB… do us a quick 6 and a 4…
AB now on 92
Only 7 more for AB’s ton
OK, AB on strike…. one 6 needed
196 / 3
AB needs 5 and is on strike
