Supersport Preview
A consistent South Africa will have a clear edge over the unpredictable West Indies in Thursday’s Group B match at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.
One of the best teams never to have won a World Cup, South Africa’s aspirations could be gauged from the fact that they have packed three frontline spinners of different styles for the World Cup in the region where the tweakers thrive most.
At the same time, they have contemporary cricket’s deadliest pace pair in Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel, one who thrives on pace while the other prefers bounce to torment the batsmen.
“There is always a place for genuine pace. I don’t think anybody likes to face people who bowl at 155 kph. If someone tells you they enjoy it, they are lying to you,” skipper Graeme Smith said.
They have a formidable line-up with Jacques Kallis and Hashim Amla as the batting mainstays.
In contrast, twice champions West Indies lack the depth or variety of their opponents but in Chris Gayle, they have a player who can turn a game on its head on his day.
Windies 7 down… that was a golden duck for Pollard.
We must try and restrict them to under 250… easiest way to do it will be to take one or 2 more wickets
@ Puma:
must give Blue Bird this work out for the Argus
Another one bites the dust Tahir takes 4
149@ Puma:
Keep running man, just take a heart pill quickly… and put some bandages on the wonky knees
Another wicket!!
Tahir now has 4

Yesssssssssssssssss Go Proteas!!!!
Whooooooohooooooo, back in time to see Steyn take that wicket. We on fire at the moment.
Now if we don’t bat well, my blood pressure will go up…….hahahaha. Bowlers have done their job today.
OK, get the ROACH out… kakkerlak!

OK, boul Big Benn op sy klokke! Ding Dong!
DW Steyn 7-1-22-2
@ superBul:163 – That is impressive for his first time playing for Proteas. Very impressive. I know he can go for plenty runs sometime, but he takes wickets and it counts. Damn Super, how I wish we had Tahir for one of the tests against India. We just may have won the series, who knows. Wickets count in tests. Anyhow that is gone. He has to start against India and England.
@ Puma:
Let accept the decision. They wanted to hide him from all the experts
ALL Out!!
Ding Dong gone!
WI 222
Steyn to Benn, OUT
SJ Benn c Morkel b Steyn 6 (8b 1×4 0x6) SR: 75.00
OK, now we must be patient and chase well… and we must’nt give easy wickets away.
Terrible batting collapse by the Windies
They totally collapsed, this is 30 shy of a good score
AbuShariz has sent this in about a hundred times: “Supporting WI? Their batting look as rusty as their outfit colour appears.”
Could hear some of the saffa accent coming out from Tahir there. Saying “I mean” in his sentence…hehehe. Saffas say that a lot.
Now hope we come out and bat well. Great bowling from Tahir and Steyn.
172@ superBul:
They lost their last 5 wickets in the space of 13 runs
@ grootblousmile:171 – Just hope we don’t have a batting collapse. We did against India here.
Now need to bat well. Our bowlers have done their job well.
Anger at ‘butchered’ SA anthem
South Africa fans claimed their national anthem was “butchered” when it was cut short at the start of the World Cup match against West Indies at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium on Thursday.
Only half of the stirring anthem was played before the sound was abruptly halted, much to the consternation of the smattering of fans inside the stadium.
“As if the World Cup has not been boring enough, now our national anthem gets butchered. Another failure,” wrote one fan on Twitter.
Another said: “…messed up our national anthem at the start of the match…so who’s to blame?”
One other tweeter praised the team, led by bemused skipper Graeme Smith, for bravely attempting to complete the anthem by themselves without the musical support.
“We assume it’s a technical error, but well done to the boys and supporters at the venue for finishing our national anthem,” said one fan.
I would have said close to 300 would have been a good score… so more like 75 short of a very good total

Just hope it does not become a big issue. Just play the game and take the apology , if one is made.
176@ Puma:
Yip, funny old game…. we need to keep wickets nicely in tact to be able to speed up the batting after 30 overs
