Supersport Preview
A consistent South Africa will have a clear edge over the unpredictable West Indies in Thursday’s Group B match at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.
One of the best teams never to have won a World Cup, South Africa’s aspirations could be gauged from the fact that they have packed three frontline spinners of different styles for the World Cup in the region where the tweakers thrive most.
At the same time, they have contemporary cricket’s deadliest pace pair in Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel, one who thrives on pace while the other prefers bounce to torment the batsmen.
“There is always a place for genuine pace. I don’t think anybody likes to face people who bowl at 155 kph. If someone tells you they enjoy it, they are lying to you,” skipper Graeme Smith said.
They have a formidable line-up with Jacques Kallis and Hashim Amla as the batting mainstays.
In contrast, twice champions West Indies lack the depth or variety of their opponents but in Chris Gayle, they have a player who can turn a game on its head on his day.
Come on Duminy…. see that AB gets the strike man, FFS
Come on AB… you need only 4
AB needs 3 and retains the strike
Come on AB moer that 4 , they want to stop
Arghhhhh damnit…. covers coming on….
Oh NO , hope it is a quick shower
276@ superBul:
Certainly does not sound like a quick shower.
So close for Ab, but yet so far.
Proteas 58 runs better on Luckworth / Doos as it stands now
Was there no one who could warn the batsmen of the rain, Duminy would have given more strike to AB.
Ahhhh, sounds like the rain is stopping, umpires are going to talk to the groundsmen…
Damn they stop play while AB was on 97 what a bummer. Could have waited just a min, nothing to lose we would have won anyhow.
Well well done to our team. One win in the bag.
See why Smith bowled first, probably knew the rain would come.
See cover coming off. AB needs one over thats all
Covers coming off… this was a brief interruption…
Now AB must just get his ton… that’s all I worry about now
@ grootblousmile:Wonder if they will bring them out so AB can get his 100?
Vodacom Cup kicks off this week
Sixteen teams line up for the 2011 Vodacom Cup, aiming to lift the title while SARU will take rugby back to the community.
283@ Puma:
Looking very likely… covers off…
Okay covers coming off. AB should get his 100.
@ grootblousmile:285 – Ja, see that. Hope he smacks it to the boundary now..hehehe.

Not sure how many of you know about the super-efficient Delhi police at the Kotla, who refused to let food into the ground today. The entire South African team, and Geoff Boycott, were almost forced to starve. Well, the last World Cup was ruined by the administrators not allowing musical instruments into the ground – this time, they are going one step ahead. Tragic. In Bangalore, the tickets distribution for Ind v Eng was an absolute shambles. People queued up from late last night, only to be roughed up by cops and an immense crowd – how can you blame the crowds, when you only release a fraction of the tickets to the public? At some point, the crowds should just stop turning up. Sadly, no one will even notice. Cricket is, after all, made for TV.
AB on 99
AB gets his TON!!!!
Benn to de Villiers, 1 run, over-pitched on off, AB forces through wide mid-off for one
The crowd’s chanting “AB AB..” They want a 100.
WELL DONE AB. ANOTHER 100. Brilliant. Pleased they took th eovers off.
AB gets to the pitch, bends the knee and creams it into the covers for the fastest 100 by a South African in World Cups. It’s been an AB delight.
AB de Villiers: 100 off 97 balls (8 x 4, 2 x 6)
@ superBul:290 – Well hope they got fed at sometime..haha.
Think the police are taking no nonsense there and security is tops.
West Indies body language looks sad, they are thoroughly beaten
We should win this now. So I am off.
Catch up on the weekend. Cheers gbs and Super.
Go Sharks… 🙂
Cheers 4man, did you fall asleep bud?…hehehe.
