Western Force and Wallabies openside flanker David Pocock swept the Australian rugby awards for 2010 by winning the Rugby Union Players Association’s Medal for Excellence.

Pocock had already won Australian rugby’s highest honour, winning the John Eales Medal, and was voted as the Australian fan’s player of the year, a people’s choice award.

Twenty two year old Zimbabwean born Pocock moved to Australia in 2002 and has gone on to make the shortlist for the IRB World Player of the Year award but lost to All Blacks captain Richie McCaw this year.

Pocock was embarrassed to accept another individual award but said he would trade it all for success at the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

“You’d swap everything for that,” Pocock said to AAP.

“Definitely every rugby player’s dream and goal is to win a World Cup, so next year will be a massive year for us.”

“We can’t get ahead of ourselves. We’ve put in a lot of hard work and we’ve progressed a bit this year, but we’re still nowhere near where we need to be. ”

“There’s still a lot of hard work to go and a lot of work to be done in the Super 15 and obviously we’ll need to step up in the Tri Nations to give us a good start into the World Cup.”

Whilst the Wallabies ended their losing streak to the All Blacks this year they lost twice to England but Pocock and the Wallabies believe the team is on track, feeling like they still are to reach their peak.

“The coaches have their head around it pretty well and the players are willing to do whatever it takes,” he said.

“Having said that, every team is probably feeling like that so it should be one hell of a competition.”
