Luke Watson has confirmed that he has signed a 3-year deal with Eastern Province Kings starting in 2011.
Watson who left South Africa 2 years ago after leading Western Province to a home semi-final in the Currie Cup has decided to take up the Kings’ offer and return to South Africa.
Watson is of course a product of Grey College in PE and his father is currently president of the union of the EP Kings.
On his Twitter newsfeed Watson confirmed that the offer from the Kings, under the guidance of Alan Solomons, was just too good an opportunity to pass up on.
“I’ll be returning to SA after the completion of this season with Bath. I have signed a 3 year contract with the Eastern Province Kings,” Watson said.
“(It was an) Incredibly tough decision. I have loved my time at Bath. The supporters have been amazing and the Club is incredibly special to me.
“My time thus far at Bath has been invaluable. It has been one of the best experiences of my life and I’ll be forever grateful for that.
“However the opportunity to return home to SA and especially to my home city PE, is one that I have to grab with both hands!
“It’s always been my dream to see top flight rugby established within the Eastern Cape and I am very excited to be able to be a part of this.”
Shame, and they were actually starting to play such good rugby at EP…
Watson was nog altyd ‘n baie goeie speler, so check.
The few games I saw him play for Bath were impressive.
Whether the majority of supporters in the country will ever forgive his mis-guided comments remain to be seen.
Can a leopard change it’s spots? Possible but not probable.
GG,
Broer, asse man ees “geskyf” is maak alles sin! 😉
Scrumdown, Luke aint coming here to obtain forgiveness; he’s coming home to play rugby.
“Can a leopard change his spots” is a Biblical term, so let him without fault cast the first stone.
Ons lees tot sover….
