In the Off-season from rugby, time seems to float slowly… glad that I’m going to be on holiday from 6 – 23 January, it is usually in those last weeks before the Super Rugby Series that the withdrawal symptoms away from rugby is at it’s strongest.

When I return from holiday there is the Super 15 warm-up matches and then we fall headlong into the season… rugby galore!

I December we will have to make do with some cricket… and I will take a couple of days off to go hunt on invitation, as well. Have never shot an animal, so it will be a new experience for me… and BonzaiGBS and me should enjoy the experience.

Inbetween, Handbriekie has a list of fixer-uppers for me to attend to at home, so there’s no excuses for me…. hehehehehe

    @ grootblousmile:
Hey ma recall seeing on your posts a little while back talking about your holiday itinery, sounds like you guys are going to be in for a big time. You mentioned staying at Faerie Knowe Hotel, is that at/near Wilderness? My last holiday is SA was spent along the garden route from Mossel Bay to Knysna and I think one of the places camped was Faerie Knowe they had a backpackers lodge there as well as the small camping site, can never forget sitting around breakfast table outside with the owners big potbellied pig basking in the sun behind us. Hartenbos is a place I love as well, some great memories from visiting there during my student days. Geniet dit ou pel!

England have one hand on the Ashes after Graeme Swann bowled them to victory with a five-wicket haul in Adelaide, where neither rain nor the lower order could save Australia on the fifth morning. The significance of the win cannot be underestimated, as it gives England a 1-0 advantage heading in to the third Test in Perth, which starts in a week and a half.

The triumph came when Swann turned a ball through the gate to bowl Peter Siddle, completing his five-for and confirming the margin of an innings and 71 runs. It was a devastating morning for Australia, who began the day hopeful that they could survive for a draw with six wickets in hand, but it took England less than 90 minutes to skittle the remaining Australians.

Last time England took a series lead in Australia, it was 1986-87, and they did not give it away. And as the holders of the urn, Andrew Strauss and his men will retain the Ashes unless Australia can win at least two of the remaining three Tests, a monumental task given that they have now gone five Tests without tasting victory, stretching back to the series against Pakistan in England.

    @ Loosehead:
Ponting must be under pressure a lot he is not producing lately. Wonder how long before he is dropped as Captain.
I am happy for Kevin Pieterson, he is back with a bang, his stint at the Dolphins helped him a lot.
