The Sharks have announced that Absa has terminated their 11-year association with them, having decided to drop the current sponsorship as stadium naming rights-holder which they have held since 2000.
The news comes ahead of Saturday’s Currie Cup final when the Sharks host Western Province. Kick-off is at 17:30.
From Kings Park to The Stadium Kings Park and finally to The Absa Stadium Durban, the Shark Tank is world-renowned for its unique brand of pre- and post match entertainment – and as the home of the Sharks.
The termination of the sponsorship means that the Sharks will now be in the hunt to find a new sponsor ahead of next year’s Super 15.
I wonder how much of this decision is politically motivated.
Pleased about this. Never liked the name ABSA Stadium. So hope it goes back to Kings Park, or just the Tank will do fine.
They should just revert back to Kings Park….
@ grootblousmile:
No. Then Cheeky and the EP mob will want to claim some money for naming rights. (Kings?)
