Facts on the 2010 Absa Currie Cup Premier Division Final:
The second round of matches to determine who plays in the Currie Cup Premier division next year will be played today. The Leopards play SWD Eagles at Outeniqua Park on Friday (17h05) followed by the EP Kings against the Pumas at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at 19h10.
Wallabies prop Ben Alexander will play his first Test since suffering a knee injury in June when he packs down against the All Blacks in Saturday’s Bledisloe Cup Test in Hong Kong.
With excitement levels reaching fever pitch in Durban, and indeed the country, Sharks coach John Plumtree has announced his team for face Western Province in the Currie Cup final on Saturday. Kick-off is at 17:30.
The Chiefs announced today that All Blacks legend and Counties-Manukau representative Tana Umaga has signed with the Chiefs for the 2011 Investec Super Rugby season.

Every year this time I just can’t help to think about the 1970 Cinderella story when Griquas came from nowhwere to win the Currie Cup. That magical won by Griquas has intriqued me since I can remember and I have been loosely on the look-out for information about that match/season always thinking that I’ll make some serious investigation into at some stage. Platinum Leopards’ coach Leon Boshoff made only one change in the starting line-up of his side that travels to George to face the South Western Districts (SWD) Eagles on Friday in the second leg of their Absa Currie Cup promotion-relegation tie.
Pumas coach Jimmy Stonehouse has made just one change to his match-day 22 for the second leg in the promotion/relegation battle with the EP Kings on Friday.
Fullback Johan Jackson has served his two week suspension for a spear tackle against the Lions and replaces Ashwin Scott on the bench for the match.
Former Natal Shark and now Saracens centre Brad Barritt has been called up to the England Elite Playing squad as cover for Riki Flutey.
Durban born Barritt was already in the England Saxons squad and has impressed playing for Saracens.
The Golden Lions Rugby Union have signed Sharks prop Patric Cilliers and flank Michael Rhodes have signed for the 2011 Super Rugby competition.
The Sharks have announced that Absa has terminated their 11-year association with them, having decided to drop the current sponsorship as stadium naming rights-holder which they have held since 2000.
Mannetjies Gericke, once a Springbok scrumhalf ,died on Friday in the Wilgeheuwel Hospital in Roodepoort. He was 77.
Gericke had trouble with his knee – old rugby injuries – and was unable to walk when he went into hospital for a knee replacement on September 2010. He suffered greatly after the operation and did little more than a month afterwards.
