The Golden Lions Rugby Union have signed Sharks prop Patric Cilliers and flank Michael Rhodes have signed for the 2011 Super Rugby competition.

The two players will join the Johannesburg franchise on Monday, 15 November 2010 when training begins for next year’s Super 15.

Both Sharks players were released from their contracts by the Sharks this morning.

In his first year with the Natal Sharks, loosehead Cilliers was being spoken of as a possible future captain, but his career with the Sharks was held back by injuries which kept him off the field for long periods.

Rhodes has played for the Sharks mostly during the under-strength stage of the Currie Cup .

He has however produced some inspired performances and he should be a good player for the Lions as they continue to rebuild under former All Black and Western Force coach John Mitchell.

One Response to 2 Sharkies to swim on the Highveld

Mr de Klerk, I sincerely hope you don’t consider these 2 to be among the “world class players” you promised to bring to JHB?

They may add depth, but are certainly not “stars”.
