The Vodacom Bulls and Vodacom Blue Bulls have secured the services of their world class number eight, Pierre Spies, till October 2012.
The 25 year old loose forward, who has played 37 test matches for South Africa already, indicated that it was an easy decision to extend his stay at Loftus Versfeld.
“I have received numerous offers from abroad and other local unions, but it was quite easy to make this call, said Spies, who represented the Blue Bulls from his primary school days.
“The quality of the players around me, the fantastic management structures and the achievements we have recorded all contributed to my decision. It is very important in life to set high goals and this team does just that. I also came through the structures and want to remain part of it for a while longer,” Spies said.
He signed his contract with the Blue Bulls Company on Tuesday.
“Now I can focus without any worries on doing what I am getting paid to do and play rugby to the best of my abilities,” Spies concluded.
The head coach of the Bulls and Blue Bulls, Frans Ludeke, was very happy about this development. “It is a huge honour for a union if someone of Pierre’s stature and talent finds himself comfortable in their environment and structures. He is a world class player and also adds a massive amount off the field,” Ludeke said. “We are very happy to retain his services. “

I wish we can see Spies with a few clever new moves next time he plays. If the Bulls coaches can perfect that move the All Blacks did for McCaws try we might see some fun. Also Spies must dummy a bit, he and almost all SA backrowers have the same stupid moves. We bash into the first opponent, that might still be OK, but we are programmed to go down and place the ball.
we must try and stay longer on our feet, and we must peel of more. We try and go down as fast as posible and with the Pococks and McCaws that is plain give away ball. They know beforehand we WILL go down, so they hang around a second and then poach.
Dummy passing is seldom seen, even some chip kicks like VM did might break the pattern.
But all this can only work if our forward coaches practice this and include them into our arsenal. Can they work out a clever move like the All Blacks did? Not GG.

Could not agree more SB.
I really hope Spies can lift his game. Too many farm animals were sacrificed in cross breeding in order to produce him, that he may just fade away.
Gunner, when they used those farm animals they simply forgot to put the sly and cunning gene of the Fox in there
@ Greenpoint-Gunner:
You found that You Tube clip refering to Spies as a ‘Farm Animal’ hilarious too….
That was side splittingly funny!!

I did mine this morning…just went on gut feeling!
Put Bulls by 5, as they are at home. Funny last season against the Lions I would have put Bulls to win by 25!!
What a difference a season makes!
