The Sharks will be biting their nails about the fitness of steamrolling loose forward Willem Alberts for the next few days.

Alberts is doubtful for Saturday’s Currie Cup match against Western Province in Durban.

The match will determine which team finishes the first round at the top of the Premier League log.

Alberts, who has been making an impression with his storming runs this year and his ability to bump off opponents, sustained a leg injury in last Friday’s win over the Leopards in Phokeng.

While x-rays did not reveal a fracture, team doctor Ewoudt van der Linde said that further tests would be conducted to determine the nature of the injury. Alberts did not train on Monday and his first possible involvement this week may be Thursday’s contact session.

Good news for the Sharks is that Springbok No 8 Ryan Kankowski may well be released to play against WP. He has been out with an injury for the past few weeks, but is fit and may be a key player in the showdown between the top two sides in the Currie Cup.

Prop Eugene van Staden, fullback Louis Ludik and flyhalf Patrick Lambie sustained light injuries against the Leopards, but should all be fit by Saturday.

Sharks coach John Plumtree said he was delighted that his team could follow up a good performance against a “big” side like the Lions with an equally impressive one against the Leopards, who are among the so-called smaller unions.

“We struggled against the Pumas after beating the Blue Bulls earlier in the season. That is why I wanted us to follow up a victory over one of the big unions with another one against a small union,” said Plumtree.

“We had good rhythm on the defence and the hard work in training reaped rewards. We made some good tackles and that was nice to see.”

Alberts, in particular, made some big tackles and Plumtree would therefore like to see him in action against WP.

The one negative aspect that Plumtree wants to address is the large number of penalties conceded.

“Our discipline will have to be excellent against WP,” he said.

The battle between the WP and Sharks loosies and forwards in general is something to really look forward to.

Another Test-like match coming up this weekend!

    @ grootblousmile:
Lets just hope that the quality of the rugby played is better than that played in the Bulls / WP match.

  • 3

    2@ Loosehead:
Why Loosehead, would you rather want it to be of the quality which the Staat showed against the Lions??

  • 4

@ grootblousmile: Nah…should be the quality which FS played the BB’s 🙂 They both sucked then and they both sucked this past weekend 🙂

Yster. So nog `n maand, ne? Eina.

  • 11

    @ Die Blou Kuberruim Wandelaar:
As jy nog hier is watter game gaan die Bokke Saterdag try speel as jy die span so loer?

  • 12

    @ superBul:

    Ek hoor jou.

    @ superBul:

Dit sounds somber, geen regtige idee not. Ek skry so trough mekaar ssos i think the Bokke gaan speel. Moer (what will that be in Ingrish) ons lyk ongelukkig with our backs to the muur.

  • 14

    @ superBul:

Ons look through mekaar with die useless spel plan wat Pieter de Villiers vir us uitgewerk het. Or sal we se, not uitgewerk het. Ek is geen master nie, maar I dink the Boks gaan try die game op their spoed keep, todat they in the 22 kom where hulle can hardloop like afkop chickens. Dis Schalk Burger’s gunstelling way, maar sees vir a tekort of vories at die breakdown wanneer he besluit to gaan wide.

Julle klink nou soos onse rou Ingelse Bloggers, wanneer hulle probeer Afrikaans gooi…. so deurmeketaar soos ‘n verkleurmannetjie op ‘n Smartieboksie….

  • 17

Ag nee. Ek het die nuus gemis.

  • 18

    @ grootblousmile:

Of so deurmekaar so `n Pieter de Villiers met meer as een spankeuse om te maak.

  • 19

    @ grootblousmile:
Nei mahn , watch vi John Smit hoe chys hy da die skoppe, want Habs is te lui.

  • 20

    17@ Die Blou Kuberruim Wandelaar:
Ek sal jou gou die nuus vertel…

Daar was moorde, stakings en toyi toyi gewees… paar fokkers wat dink hulle weet baie en paar fokkers wat weet hulle dink baie…. same old same old….

    @ grootblousmile:

Maku was toe nie veel innie prent nie. Ek bekommer my oor sy spelpeil.

  • 22

  • 23

    21@ Die Blou Kuberruim Wandelaar:
    Maku is OK man….

Ockie Kruger is bietjie lig man… CJ Stander is goed maar hy hardloop so bietjie regop in kontak in…

Steggies is oor 3 weke al reg, Gary oor 4 weke….

  • 24

Wanneer is Stegman nou weer reg se hulle?

  • 26

    22@ superBul:
    Lyk maar vir my dieselfde…

    Praat jy van http://www.sarugby.co.za ???

Springbok and Vodacom Blue Bulls loose forward, Dewald Potgieter, has been declared fit to play and will don the light blue jersey of the Blue Bulls in their Absa Currie Cup match against Griquas at Loftus Versfeld on Friday night.

Potgieter suffered a heavy blow to the neck in last weekend’s match against Western Province, but have recovered sufficiently to take his place on the side of the Blue Bulls scrum.

  • 28

  • 30

    @ superBul:

Ja, waar is die verskeie unies?
Ek wil nie twak lees nie. Gee my net die Blou Bul se nuus.

    @ superBul:
Baie bly daaroor.

    @ grootblousmile:

Jy se Okkie is bietjie lig. Okei.
