Flank Pieter Louw scored a hat-trick for Western Province against the Griffons in their Currie Cup compulsory friendly in Welkom.
In Province’s only warm-up before the competition proper starts next week, the visitors won 29-5 after leading 24-0 lead at half-time.
Louw had claimed a brace by that stage, while lock Adriaan Fondse also got his name on the scoreboard.
In the second half the Griffons successfully nullified the visitors, and the second half score was 5-5.
Griffons scrumhalf Theodor Schultz scored his side’s only points, while Louw claimed his third try with 10 minutes remaining.
WP face the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein next week in the opening round of Currie Cup matches.
