All Blacks (13) 31 / Springboks (7) 17 (Final Score)

The All Blacks hosted the Springboks at 09:35 SA Time in Wellington, New Zealand for the 2nd Tri-Nations Test. This is the match thread for discussion of the game. The Game was broadcast live on SuperSport 1 on DSTV in SA.

For the 2nd weekend in a row the All Blacks score 4 tries against the Springboks to earn a bonus point.

This time the All Blacks win by 31 / 17, a 14 point margin.

Lots of complaints about they way the referee handled the game, but let’s be honest, the All Blacks were the better team on the day again.

Let’s hope Ruan Pienaar now gets a starting berth against the Wallabies and BJ Botha plays at tight head prop. Let’s also hope the National Coach realises that Jean de Villiers is not a right wing.

@ grootblousmile:Ja we were and I take my hat off to Wynand, he played well, Kirchner maintained too…perhaps they should have switched Habana too….poor showing. The ref was pedantic, but he gave McCaw too many warnings without carding him when we were on their line….but they outclassed us today. Amazing what attitude and confidence can do, because there is very little between the teams in esssence.

Ref was not “great” but he was not biased, he missed plenty on both sides. Watch the replay, Rene Ranger did use his arms in the tackle. Ref’s “final warning” to Richie was not directed at RM personally but a request to talk to the team. Again, my point is ref missed stuff by BOTH teams.

I think it goes back to the refs needing to be fitter, you cannot make good calls if you arrive 2 mins after the players while suffering a lack of oxygen to the brain.

Boks played significantly more cohesively than last week, but they have never won at SunCorp so next week will be a concern – but not insurmountable !

Super, freedom is not always having to be right about something.

  • 244

Naas, Ashwin and Darren talking about Jean’s failure as well…. I agree boys.

… and yes, the All Blacks used the width of the field better… from one side to the other and back… and bammmm, we’re exposed out wide.

    My word
What a total shambles from the Bokke, losing two in a row against the AB’s with a bonus point against them in each game. Never mind getting rid of Muir (should never have been there) and Gold (where is he from again?) we absolutely need to get our house in order, get Alistair in there again (if he is not there now?) and preferably get either the Stormers or Bulls backline coaches in there. If Piet Snor carries on with his team and managerial selections the way he is, then the Aussissies are also going to thrash us & that after losing against the Poms a number of weeks ago.
I do not want to get the old clichés in here because across the board there have been really bad play, but this persistent look-at-the-politics-of-selections first is sinking us. And that refers to not choosing the absolute best in each & very position available, as I advocated earlier.
The referee? Cannot be worse. The Boks general play? Cannot be worse. The AB’s dominance? Could be better refereed, way way better. I mean, how many warnings do you want to give a team? And watch the citing afterwards. I’ll be very surprised if any comes up against Ranger…..

    @ grootblousmile:
Thanks for the score updates, mate, much appreciated.

Sounds like boks were beaten by a better side on the night. Let’s watch next week’s team selections and tactics against the Wallabies in Brisbane. ABs are now raging favourites for the 3N and deservedly so.

Wallabies are recovering from injuries to key players and they look disjointed and incohesive, so the game might prove to be a battle for the wooden-spoon?
    Catch everyone again soon.

@ fender:I had my helmet cut off 4 days after I was born!!

  • 248

Oohh & in fairness to Boks I cud not understand why Russow got the yellow card. Even on replay I cud not see the offence, but that was probably fairly compensated by not getting one for the spear tackle so swings & roundabouts there 🙂

  • 249

Jean will be cited for a spear….. bet your bottom dollar on it!

  • 250

@ Rugby_Princess:No spear tackle….I thought so too then on the replay its clear, he helps him down…Rangers no arm tackle on Kirchner was borderline, but it was with intention to hurt, because Kirchner was running thru them time and again….bad sportmanship and not acceptable.

    GBS

I don’t think it was made maliciously though – just a bit careless.

  • 252

    @ grootblousmile:I see it different.

    248@ Rugby_Princess:
    Congrats Rugby_Dizzy_Blonde….. deserved win.

  • 254

princess rannger used his arms??? yeah right , disgracefull shoulder charge to say the least

not sure which game you watched

in saying that not saying we lost because of the ref , we have ourselves to blame , and the main culprit is the coach, afterall it starts at the top

  • 255

    4man

I have not seen a replay but if that is the case the I hope he does not get cited – that would be unfair. I disagree on Ranger though he used his arms (loosely I will admit but they were wrapped around the player he tackled) & yes it was hard, it was supposed to be.

  • 256

uhm there was no spear tackle

lifting does not mean its a spear tackle

its how the tackle pans out ffs

  • 257

Glad Butch did not get a run today, also hopefully it ends here with the Jean experiment on wing and hope above hope I hope that Ruan starts at No 9.

  • 258

ricky january again was so slow at getting the backline away, ruan is so much faster

no doubt ruan and fourie dup should be our scrummies

WO had a nice game tonight , one of the beswt i have sen him play in the green and gold

    GBS

Thanks, yes the boys stepped up 😀 Yours were much better than last week though & the convicts are in disarray so maybe Boks will break their hoodoo in SunCorp next week ?

    Sharky
We will have to agree to disagree then.

  • 260

    bekker is stupid as hell

and CJ is not a damn TH

  • 261

Thanks ouens, I’m out. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  • 262

@ sharky_forever:Sharky…the players must take responsibility, all the young players stepped up today….of the old established players only the stalwarts displayed the right attitude (eg Schalkie). Spies should not get frustrated but redirect his energy where it is useful. Habana was poor. Januarie was poor he never got the centres away…Mossie is wasted tackling all the time…Ruan should have started today.

  • 263

    rugby princess @ 259
    congrats princess
your team is peaking well!! 😆

  • 264

    @ 4man:
    Hoesit Oom Norm
Man am I p****d off at this NH referee selections. Without looking at all the bad play by the Boks these last two games was the highest intensity games on the planet this year, & the IRB / SANZAR decided to get two fricken slow-due-to-too-much-Guinness Oirish refs to try & keep up on rules they have not used yet on the international scene. Unbelievable.
Bad sportsmanship & no-arms-unless-you-watched-another-game by Ranger but don’t expect any citing, this happened on NZ soil after all

  • 265

    #263
i meant to say .. playing well!! 😉

  • 266

I will put up a GBS Bokke Ratings Thread tomorrow, between doing woodwork…

  • 267

    Sharky

Actually, you are right it was not a spear tackle – BUT – if you lift a player off the ground you are responsible for seeing he makes it back to earth safely, else it is a dangerous play citation. As I saw it (with no slo-mo replay) the player was dropped. I may be entirely wrong, but that was how it looked at regular speed.

  • 268

@ Rugby_Princess:Thats my point…Boks do it too, try to hurt a good player and its unsportmanlike, they tried to hurt Kirchner, I dont and never will accept that philosophy….if the guys want to fight I’m actually more for that, because it is a level playing field…Rangers tackle was borderline, he lifted his right arm slightly and ran in with the shoulder…if that was Butch James he probably would have been carded.

  • 269

sorry 4 man i thought spies was not good today or last week, he is not his usual self

and again showed he has poor hands, although i loved that clearing kick of his lol

  • 270

Just to put it on record, the AB’s totally outplayed us and deserved the 10 points, congratulations.
No moaning & groaning outwards will help us, getting our own house in order is top priority.
