Springboks (22) 29 / Azuri (3) 13 (Final Score)

The Springboks hosted the Italian Azuri team at Witbank, Mpumalanga, South Africa at 15:00 SA Time. This is the match thread for discussion of the game. The game was broadcast live on SuperSport 1 on DSTV in SA.

The Springboks won convincingly but rhytm lacked in the 2nd half, specially when too many subs came on.

Players who did not enhance their Springbok futures were Butch James (who was also awarded a yellow card), Ricky Januarie &  Alistair Hargreaves.

The Springboks ran in 4 tries to 1 and the final score was Springboks 29 / 13.

I’ve saved that link now, thanks Super.

Ricky Januarie had a much poorer game than last week, he is very much a up and down player, not very consistent. I praised him last week but this week he was really half pace.

    @ fender:
My pleasure , just wish the WC is over now. Too much diving and just look what Habana learned from that interaction with the Boys. 😀

    Ricky knocked a lot today…

In he Bokke midfield, the Butch & Jean combo did not work.

Bakkies did relatively well today… consider the loss of momentum when he went off and was replaced by Hargreaves.

What will next week’s team look like… obviously more players from down South, maybe something like this, taking a wild stab at it.

    15. Zane Kirchner – For more Bokke experience prior to Tri-Nations
    14. Gio Aplon – For more Bokke experience prior to Tri-Nations
    13. Jaque Fourie – To enhance midfield considerably
    12. Juan de Jongh – Jaque’s regular Midfield partner at the Stormers and for more Bokke experience prior to Tri-Nations
    11. Bjorn Basson – Resting Habana a bit, increasing wing depth with an eye forward
    10. Butch James – Wrong choice in my opinion but that’s the way I think Snorrie will go, I would have preferred Peter Grant
    9. Ruan Pienaar
    8. Ryan Kankowski – Giving Spies a needed rest
    7. Francois Louw – For more Bokke experience prior to the Tri-Nations
    6. Shalk Burger (captain) – Back from injury
    5. Andries Bekker – If not still injured, otherwise I suppose Hargreaves will play… eishhh
    4. Bakkies Botha – Needs more game time prior to Tri-Nations
    3. Jannie Du Plessis or maybe BJ Botha again with an eye on Tri-Nations
    2. Chiliboy – If John Smit is not over his injury yet
    1. C J van der Linde – Resting Gurthro, but with Gurthro on bench in case it goes pear-shaped in the scrums

GBS @ 130 I love to see players like Aplon get a chance to show their wares. There might not be much of him in terms of body size, but I always love to watch the fast twitch player stride out with ball in hand. I’m a big fan of Gio’s and wish him every success in his career.
