Read on to see all the landmarks reached by the Proteas in this match.

A very dull draw though on a pitch called a tar road by commentators.

South Africa 543/6d & 235/3d (94 ov)

G Smith 132, J Kallis 110, AB de Villiers 135*

West Indies 424/4 (116.0 ov)

BP Nash 114, S Chanderpaul 151*

Test Match ends. Quite an awful pitch this. South Africa have declared and the teams have agreed to call it off. South Africa lead the series 1-0.

St Kitts – Regardless of what happens on the final day of the second Test between the Proteas and the West Indies at Warner Park, St. Kitts, the match will go down in Cricket South Africa’s history for a succession of significant career landmarks.

These include two of the most notable achievements in the history of the game with Jacques Kallis recording his 11 000th Test run on Saturday’s second day and then Mark Boucher becoming the first wicketkeeper in the history of the game to take 500 Test match dismissals on Monday’s fourth day.

It completes the unique double of 500 dismissals and 5 000 runs in the game’s purest form. There is no other current player remotely in a position to do the same which suggests this record will stand for decades to come.

Earlier in the match there had also been important career moments for Graeme Smith (7 000 runs) and AB de Villiers (4 000 runs). Not to be outdone by the rest, Kallis, in fact, achieved two landmark statistics in the same match as his dismissal of Shane Shillingford, caught by De Villiers at second slip, was his 50th dismissal against the West Indies. Kallis scored his 35th test 100, to move to 3rd spot on his own, with only Tendulkar(47) and Ponting(39) ahead of him.
South Africa, chasing a series win in what has been a very successful tour so far, got off to a winning start at the toss at Warner Park. The road of a pitch prompted Graeme Smith to give his batsmen the best use of the conditions.

Not surprisingly, South Africa retained their winning line-up from Trinidad. There could have been a case for an extra spinner to partner Paul Harris, but with their pacers hogging the wickets, there wasn’t any need for any such change.

West Indies made a welcome change to their line-up, bringing in the fast bowler Kemar Roach. Roach was missing in action since the start of the series with an ankle injury, and in Trinidad, West Indies clearly lacked a genuine fast bowler who could hit the deck hard. Nelon Pascal, who made his debut in Trinidad, made way for Roach.

Chris Gayle was disappointed at losing the toss yet again but was confident of matching whatever the South Africans make. If West Indies are to stay alive in the series, their batsmen will have to find form quickly.

West Indies 1 Chris Gayle (capt), 2 Travis Dowlin, 3 Shivnarine Chanderpaul, 4 Narsingh Deonarine, 5 Brendan Nash, 6 Dwayne Bravo (vice-capt), 7 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 8 Sulieman Benn, 9 Shane Shillingford, 10 Ravi Rampaul, 11 Kemar Roach

South Africa 1 Graeme Smith (capt), 2 Alviro Petersen, 3 Jacques Kallis, 4 AB de Villiers, 5 Hashim Amla, 6 Ashwell Prince, 7 Mark Boucher (wk), 8 Paul Harris, 9 Dale Steyn, 10 Morne Morkel, 11 Lonwabo Tsotsobe

I doubt he will ever get it Super, like the World Cup I think it’ll be missing on his cv when he retires.. If we didnt declare when he got that 189 not out he’d probably have 4 or 5 doubles by now.. He has built up such a mental block against it now,it was evidenced in his 180 against India,he threw away a 200 in that game.

“Some of the arguments made for Darren Sammy are ridiculous. I would have kept the pace and youth of Pascal or brought in another raw fast bowler like Best. Sammy is not a test bowler or even a one day bowler. He’s a good utility player on an already dynamic team. The statements made by some of the West Indian shows a detachment to cricket. “

Roach to Smith, OUT, A tame dismissal in the end. It was a short-of-length delivery angling away from Smith who went for the pull. The bat-face was shut and the ball rolled away to the stumps. Smith raises his bat as he walks off the field. He had stitched together his 21st hundred today and has put SA in a commanding position

I see Kallis and AB is still in, they need to put a huge score up before going out, then the lower order do not have to bat a lot. Then put Windies in, get them out cheap and force the Follow-up… otherwise this Test is doomed to a draw.

It is day 3 already, after all.

Kallis has just moved past 11 000 runs in his International career… wonderful

Ek sal like as Kallis lostrek na hy sy 100 tal gekry (as hy wel) en kyk of hy dalk vinnig na 200 toe kan gaan, iets wat hom nog altyd ontwyk.

Kyk ons boulers kan hulle weer uitboul so jaag vir so 600 en dan is dit ZIP ZIP ZIP zero ziltch , whitewash

Steenkamp het n great comeback gemaak , net Pierre Spies vorder nie heeltemal goed nie, wat is met die man se hande.

  • 54

Morne is die arm man se Dan Carter. Stil stil doen hy sy ding. Lekker speler daai.

  • 55

Ek wil nou nie Ernie Els jinx nie maar ook hy lyk beter deesdae, sien hy het goed begin in die US open. Le 3de 2 houe agter.

Currently Kallis is 3rd with 34 hundreds with Sunl Gavaskar and Brian Lara , one more run our man claims 3rd spot on his own.

Tendulkar on 47 and Ponting with 39 are the only players with more 100s to their names.

  • 58

Benn to Kallis, FOUR, That’s it. Kallis rocks back to cut a short delivery to backward point. 35th TEst hundred! Take a bow! What a player. Hundred no 35.

  • 59

Kalls is third on the hundred list behind Tendulkar and Ponting. He went past Gavaskar and Lara today
