Read on to see all the landmarks reached by the Proteas in this match.

A very dull draw though on a pitch called a tar road by commentators.

South Africa 543/6d & 235/3d (94 ov)

G Smith 132, J Kallis 110, AB de Villiers 135*

West Indies 424/4 (116.0 ov)

BP Nash 114, S Chanderpaul 151*

Test Match ends. Quite an awful pitch this. South Africa have declared and the teams have agreed to call it off. South Africa lead the series 1-0.

St Kitts – Regardless of what happens on the final day of the second Test between the Proteas and the West Indies at Warner Park, St. Kitts, the match will go down in Cricket South Africa’s history for a succession of significant career landmarks.

These include two of the most notable achievements in the history of the game with Jacques Kallis recording his 11 000th Test run on Saturday’s second day and then Mark Boucher becoming the first wicketkeeper in the history of the game to take 500 Test match dismissals on Monday’s fourth day.

It completes the unique double of 500 dismissals and 5 000 runs in the game’s purest form. There is no other current player remotely in a position to do the same which suggests this record will stand for decades to come.

Earlier in the match there had also been important career moments for Graeme Smith (7 000 runs) and AB de Villiers (4 000 runs). Not to be outdone by the rest, Kallis, in fact, achieved two landmark statistics in the same match as his dismissal of Shane Shillingford, caught by De Villiers at second slip, was his 50th dismissal against the West Indies. Kallis scored his 35th test 100, to move to 3rd spot on his own, with only Tendulkar(47) and Ponting(39) ahead of him.
South Africa, chasing a series win in what has been a very successful tour so far, got off to a winning start at the toss at Warner Park. The road of a pitch prompted Graeme Smith to give his batsmen the best use of the conditions.

Not surprisingly, South Africa retained their winning line-up from Trinidad. There could have been a case for an extra spinner to partner Paul Harris, but with their pacers hogging the wickets, there wasn’t any need for any such change.

West Indies made a welcome change to their line-up, bringing in the fast bowler Kemar Roach. Roach was missing in action since the start of the series with an ankle injury, and in Trinidad, West Indies clearly lacked a genuine fast bowler who could hit the deck hard. Nelon Pascal, who made his debut in Trinidad, made way for Roach.

Chris Gayle was disappointed at losing the toss yet again but was confident of matching whatever the South Africans make. If West Indies are to stay alive in the series, their batsmen will have to find form quickly.

West Indies 1 Chris Gayle (capt), 2 Travis Dowlin, 3 Shivnarine Chanderpaul, 4 Narsingh Deonarine, 5 Brendan Nash, 6 Dwayne Bravo (vice-capt), 7 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 8 Sulieman Benn, 9 Shane Shillingford, 10 Ravi Rampaul, 11 Kemar Roach

South Africa 1 Graeme Smith (capt), 2 Alviro Petersen, 3 Jacques Kallis, 4 AB de Villiers, 5 Hashim Amla, 6 Ashwell Prince, 7 Mark Boucher (wk), 8 Paul Harris, 9 Dale Steyn, 10 Morne Morkel, 11 Lonwabo Tsotsobe

The covers are already off. Good news that. Join us in a while for the second session.

The drizzle gets heavier and they go off the field There was some concern about the ball condition as well. Gayle and co didn’t look too happy. Asad Rauf walked across to have a chat with Taufel and decided let’s go back to the hutch.
The covers come on and they have taken the lunch break. i will come back then and publish more of your comments.

Veteran canoeist Graeme Pope-Ellis, a 15-times winner of the Dusi Canoe Marathon, died in an accident on his farm in Pietermaritzburg on Thursday.
Pope-Ellis, 62, was driving his tractor, doing some ploughing, when the tractor rolled over him, according to a statement released by the Dusi organising committee.

Between 1972 and 1990 Pope-Ellis, who completed the three-day race 46 times in succession from the age of 17, won a record 15 times and placed second on three occasions. Only a broken boat in 1979 prevented him from finishing among the top two for 19 consecutive years.

Ag no thats really a tragedy, this is not a sport have followed closely for a long time but the stats posted sure paint the picture of a true champion. All the strength from above for the family he has left behind.

Good start out there in the Windies, quite a healthy run rate for test cricket, also a potent batting line up, hopefully rain won’t take away too much time from this games.

Shillingford to Smith, 1 run, gets to his 28th Test fifty with a push past the non striker

  • 7

Hi Super, the cricket is going well so far, lets hope Smith gets big runs.

I did articles with a chap with a surname of Pope Ellis,I wonder if they are related. Its a tragic accident what happened to the poor chap.

Its terrible that he passed away like that in the prime of his life.. My condolences to his family.

Shillingford to Amla, no run, Dowlin is hurt at square-leg,. It was swept hard and it crashed full on the neck, just under the helmet grill. Ouch!

  • 12

I saw that, looked pretty evil. Amla just got dropped.. Tops 🙂

  • 13

Smith should get to 7000 test runs in this innings, probably one of the fastest to get there..

  • 14

I hope we smash these guys and give the fringe players a go in the next game.

  • 15

Amla looks quite settled now in the team, he is getting better by the day.

  • 16

I think he would be a great captain.. But will never happen for as long as Smith is around.

  • 17

    Smith
    85 Matches
    6993 Runs
    277 HS
    50.67 average

  • 18

Well done Smith, amazing achievement to get to 7000 test runs 🙂

  • 19

Smith gets there with 2 consecutive sixes

  • 20

He is getting close to the top test run scorers of all time..

  • 21

Deonarine to Smith, SIX, 7000 Test runs in style! Smith is on the prowl. On the attack. He ran down the track, got outside of the delivery floated outside leg stump and thumps it over the straight boundary

    @ Winston:
He is doing well but he is only about halfway to Tendulkar , Ponting and Kallis.

  • 24

Yeah, but those 3 are freaks of nature,he should land up in the Top 10 when he retires,he still has a good few years to go.

  • 25

Smith has just brought up his 21 test century, amazing 🙂

  • 26

Deonarine to Smith, 3 runs, Hundred no 21. What a good conversion rate of fifties to hundreds. Impressive. This one was full and just down the leg side and Smith swept it to fine-leg. The cap comes off and he gets across to accept the congratulations from Amla

  • 27

He has got to 21 hundreds 16 test matches before Gary Kirsten, shows how he scores runs after he gets a start..

  • 28

    Shillingford to Amla, OUT
    HM Amla c Bravo b Shillingford 44 (99b 5×4 0x6) SR: 44.44

  • 29

Shillingford to Amla, OUT, A just reward for some really impressive bowling. The top spinner does the trick. Shillingford has harassed Amla for some time now and finally gets his man. Amla groped forward, unsure of the destination of the ball, and the ball went of the shoulder of the bat to first slip. Very impressive stuff from Shillingford

Kallis benefited from 20/20 cricket he starts much more dominant lately, bit scary, he used his time previously and was very successful then , if this works for him he might eventually get his elusive double ton.
