“It’s frightening how similar these sides are. France don’t play the run-from-anywhere brand they used to. They’re structured, like us, and that similarity scared me. Their forwards are bulky and physical and we had to be on top of our game to just match them. We did well today.”

“In the last two years everybody spoke about our perceived weakness at the scrums and we fell into the trap of believing that. So we brought in Os to work on that and start from zero in order to get the players to believe in themselves once more. Today was a good start in that process.”

“I think he was outstanding. He won four turnovers and scrummed really well, while also defending brilliantly. There is a lot of talk about how much he plays, but every time he comes on, he does well. I certainly have a lot of faith in Chili,” het Smit gesê.

“Victory was paramount and in our preparations we discussed the psychological benefits of a victory over France. It was our last chance to put a Springbok stamp on this fixture after France’s dominance. It was crucial in the greater scheme of things that this result went our way”

Hulle was gladnie tevrede met die span se vertoning nie en hoop om so gou as moontlik van vandag se uitslag te vergeet. ” The defeat is hard to us to accept, but we knew it was going to be intense” het Lievremont gemompel.

Well done KingPaul…. our own Media man at the game!

Certain players enhanced their Springbok longevity in my opinion whereas others have slipped a bit in my estimations.

At loosehead, Gurthro Steenkamp, was exactly what we needed and he continued his good season.

John Smit, playing with a half-injured hammie did not do himself any favours, whereas Chilliboy stood in well, for a change. I would still like to see both Gary Botha and Tiaan Liebenberg closer to the Bokke fold, I believe they are the way forward.

BJ Botha slipped in my estimation, 2 weeks in a row…. has he come to the end of the road? With Jannie du Plessis replacing him, the Bokke scrum looked better and Jannie is not exactly reknowned for his scrumming excellence… maybe time to give a younger man like werner Kruger a run to see how he performs on the Test Arena.

Danie Rossouw has clearly laid down the gauntlet for Bakkies to step up a gear and curb his penalty liabilities.

All three looseforwards did their job well and Dewald Potgieter filled the sub-role well too.

Ricky Januarie played well, he impressed me with his tenacity but his tactical kicking abilities still let him down.

Morné Steyn again showed why he is the premier flyhalf in SA.

The door is open for Juan de Jongh to be the choice No 12, Wynand was’nt on his best, this coming from a staunch Wynand supporter.

Jaque Fourie is undoubtably the premier outside centre in SA.

Gio Aplon had an excellent game… good for him! Bryan Habana once again showed his worth.

Zane Kirchner, for the 1st time got a start in the best Test side (his previous start against the B & I Lions was in a 2nd team). He was solid and nearly scored a try. His connection on defence and attack was impressive.
