Order in the rugby world has been restored, and thank goodness for that!
Not only is South African rugby dominance being restored worldwide with the feats of 2009 and all the trophies the Springboks managed to rake in last year, but the dominance in the club scene has also seen a South African team win the title twice in three years (Bulls) with the trophy guaranteed to stay in South Africa for 2010 too with the Stormers and the Bulls contesting the final this Saturday.
The lack of commentary on the worldwide web from our Antipodean brothers following this weekend’s demolition of the two best teams Australia and New Zealand could send to South Africa is a tribute to where rugby finds itself in South Africa.
There can be no contest that the best teams of the competition between South Africa, New Zealand and Australia are contesting the final this weekend. No matter what excuses the WarraTahs come up with or how sour their captain might be.
More importantly, the rugby order in South African rugby has been restored.
Yes ladies, although the Cheetahs and Sharks kept the Bulls busy over the last decade or so (thanks by the way), there is no doubt that the most revered rivalry in SA Rugby has, and will always be between the two North and South unions contesting the Super 14 final, and it makes a long awaited return this weekend.
No more talk of B or C teams, no more jokes of Stormers light 5’s or Bulls 10-man rugby. This is the type of match and rivalry that has advertisers paying hundreds and thousands of Rands to get some advertising space before, in between and after the most epic of rivalries in rugby in South Africa.
It sells out stadiums and if possible, would sell out stadiums 3 times the capacity of our biggest rugby grounds in the country if given the opportunity.
The only thing that rivals this type of game, is the talk of the return of traditional tests to rugby union, but for now even those fail to live up to what we are getting into this week where the champions, will host the pretenders in the Super rugby final in Soweto – but dare I say even more important than the trophy itself, will be the bragging rights of whoever comes out on top this weekend to wear the crown as champions of the traditional battle and umatched rivaly, between North and South.
Its NTvl versus WP boys and girls – bring it on.
morne yes it is the one we all wanted. Bragging rights will not stop the WP boykies from stepping over the line. Just look how windgat they are already, dont they know who they are talking too?
@ superBul:
I know!
I mean for shit sakes, show some respect to a team that is about to lose their title.
Bulls think they gonna walk this one.
Stormers must hope they keep giving the ball to Spies — he keeps coughing it up in the tackle.
@fender nee wat ek luister ma so na die fens klink of hulle ng net die champers moet oop maak ma da n is da bulls wat ok so redineer
its the game of the decade. Even Phil “the angriest little man alive” Waugh, will watch. Schalk, Andries, Fourie and Habana, facing Victor, Spies, Du Preez en Steyn. Can there be anything better?
Peter de Villiers on TV , respect Peter you just went up another notch. Thanks for standing behind your players.
@ superBul:
stem..goed dat hy iets se oor bakkies
9 @ Durban Bulle:
Whats the deal with the horrible email i got from Rugby-Tlk.
Good evening guys!
I am very exited for the final. The fact that it is played in Soweto is extra special.
Going to be a great day for SA.
What’s the big deal about bein in the township anyway.
12 @ willievz:
@ Wezwp:
Migght have something to do with your comments that was out of line earlier today…
It’s over now, so move on…
@ Morné:
Just as long as you pick the Stormers on superbru… 😉
..look im sorry about the shadow hate speach. but im not a damn going to apologise to pedrie and jooste.
@ Wezwp:
If one aims for a six and gets bowled, you took your chance…
You either learn from that or lose your wicket again… 😉
The key word is … ” balance “
@ Pam Anderson:
You forgot the (.)(.) blondie… 😆
Good morning to all of you…
For those who don’t know it yet..The Bulls are going to walk this one. I say this for one reason. The Bulls have not played close to their potential, and I have a feeling they are going to put it together on Saturday.
Hi, I just thought I’d share some of the Aussie Land Commentary…Griquas 14, this is what I mean about derogatory comment…right up old Wallabie’s street…
BTW…this is from Fox Sports…
“Reds fan Roland says: “Yawn…. When does the tri nations start. We will win the Mandella plate for the fourth time in the last five years this year. It’s almost going to be too easy. I think the reds could beat the Boks singlehandedly. Throw in Rocky “The Bok Belter” Elsom and a decent goal kicker, and it will be easier then stealing candy from a baby. Botha still checks under his bed at night to make sure Rocky isn’t there. It humours me how scared of him he is.”
@ The Saint:
What are they smoking down under?
Saint, how come this Aussie stuff rattles you so?
Now thats arrogance !!!!
4 @ fender:
@ fender:
Doesn’t rattle me at all, I just love reading the opinions of other countries on our rugby. BTW, allegedly SA Rugby by way of the Bulls and the Stormers, is even more boring than the 2003 England team.
@ The Saint – I can’t comment on something someone called Roland might say – he may not have a brain in his head? [who knows, he may even be a saffa – they are thick on the ground over here nowadays . . .]
Nonetheless, I have to say I’ve read similar types of forgetful rubbish on SA sites, so I don’t judge a nation by what an individual might say. Food for thought Saint?
Congrats to Bulls and Stormers – they are both, without doubt, the most appropriate teams to be contesting the final as they have shown themselves to be the best all year.
The match should prove to be a classic style of game. I’m looking forward to it.
Old Griqua
I am not unaware of some rubbish floating around on SA sites, believe me, it irks me as well.
I am not saying that I am judging the Australians by those type of comments. I have tremendous respect for what Australia has achieved in their short history, given the circumstances (as a nation that is)
But in all comments, wherever, there seems to be a definite anti-SA sentiment, that’s all I am trying to show.
@ The Saint – Fair enough mate. I don’t take exception, after all, we all know there are good and bad apples everywhere.
Let me say one thing though. As an avid rugby fan, I find those whose opinions I respect in Australia (and the average man in the street) have nothing but praise for SA rugby. How could we have anything but respect – the mantel of World Champions says enough, throw in a couple of S14 titles – enough said.

Brilliantly said Old Kwas. I agree with you. This overdone nationalism is bloody nonsense. One day you hate a Aussie next day you marry her or move to Australia.

@ superBul:
