So we were beaten, by the team that adopted the best strategy for the day. Congratulations to all my fellow bloggers who happen to be Bulls.  Be sure that this isn’t the end of the rivalry, and the Stormers will come again, stronger, better prepared, and more experienced.

I will never get used to the Vuvuzela noise as it was in the Stadium on Saturday, and without wanting to sound negative, I sincerely hope that the Vuvuzela fad isn’t carried over to Loftus.  It doesn’t have a place in rugby, and personally, I will stop attending rugby matches permanently should it become a regular occurrence.

That being said, what everyone said was true, experience has been a major factor, the Stormers came, but they were found wanting.  We were behind from early on, having to chase a game, against a fanatic home-crowd, and having 50/50 calls ALL go against one, it would never have been easy.

A few light points…albeit some iffy handling Andries Bekker showed that he meant business, with at least 4 line-out steals, 3 or 4 turnovers and some powerful defence.

Pierre Spies, dissappeared from the game after 25 minutes, and Duane Vermeulen and Francois Louw had exceptional games.

But in the end we lost, it was sad, and I will never understand why we only left our best  game for the final 30 minutes.

Again, congatulations Bulls, on a well deserved victory…

  • 35

Ek het vroeer gelees dat potties ‘n groot wp ondersteuner was op skool so dis seker ‘n aanpassing om vir die ander kant te speel.

  • 36

Composure and relentless pressure won the game on Saturday

  • 41

340 GBS, Composure in a final, now that seems closer to the truth. But let it be noted that pressure did not come from one side only. It was Stormers pressure that made Steyn pass the ball to Habs.

    35@ Onerb:

    41@ fender:
Sure, the pressure went both ways… like I said, the Stormers were worthy opponents!

My biggest fear before the game was how the Bulls would absorb the Stormers pressure in the first 20 to 30 minutes…. well they handled it pretty well, in fact THEY were the ones to pile the pressure on in that stanza…. and ultimately this won them the game.

Stormers made some ultra-uncharacteristic errors in the game, which I think translates to the fact that they were under huge pressure.

I never really felt the Stormers could get back into the match after trailing 16 / ZIP….

Bulls were very clinical in their application of their game plan…. and I think that’s where composure and experience came through strong.

Verstaan jy nou, of moet ek verder verduidelik ? 😉

    Best defender was Wynand Olivier
Best Tactical awareness award MUST go to Fourie du Preez

  • 46

In my opinion here are the Bulls players that had there opposite players number…

Those left out were seen as equal or the Stormers player took it…

    Z.Kirchner
    F.Hougaard
    W.Olivier
    M.Steyn
    F.du Preez
    P.Spies
    Stegmann
    V.Matfield
    D.Rossouw
    W.Kruger
    G.Botha
    G.Steenkamp

One would expect the Bulls to have more momentum, apply more pressure, and win the game….

    Wich they did !!!

  • 47

bdb, kyk ou grote, keeping things simple is all good and well but just because team A wins a final does not necesarily equate to any theory about team A being correct. So starag nou, ne?

  • 48

Out of 12 positions we had the better of them… WE WON !!!

Even if you want to argue one or two, champions undoubtably….

More like a blatant offside position but we won’t complain, habs did the same FOR us many a time.

  • 51

    #50 Oneye,

Oops! Did it hurt that much?

  • 52

After the match and after the pressers, we waited for a long time for Bryan Habana to come out from the Bulls dressing rooms where he obviously still shared some of the joy of the Bulls win with his old mates at the Bulls.

Bryan was the last Stormer to board the Stormers Bus…

Let me rephrase as I am sure you didn’t read what I said.

    @ grootblousmile:

We know that he wanted more money and the Bulls weren’t willing to pay.

Do you think he miss the friends and cameradery at the Bulls? Although it does look like the Stormers are getting there wrt team spirit.

I also saw nice touches from him in the game where he helped wynand and morne up after the whistle blew. Same with spies when he helped him to his feet.

  • 55

    #43 GBS,

Yip, the combination of Bulls pressure and the Stormers lack of composure in those first 20 minutes did the trick. Criticaly, Schalk lost the plot on the goal line when patience could have rewarded the Stormers with a try.

From 16-0 down, it was going to take a miracle to come back from there.

It’s up to you whether you want to place Joubert’s stats here or not. I don’t believe that its that relevant as I haven’t seen any of us Stormers supporters here on RT saying that Joubert cost us the game or contesting the fact that the Bulls clearly deserved their win.

Those other stats that we spoke about earlier will make for interesting reading.

PS: Schalk was saying that one team was coached at the breakdown and the other was not, so I don’t see how stats are going to clear that one up anyway… Nah, the best team on the day won – finish en klaar!

  • 56

Habs is a very proffesional player but imo he must have felt some form of “jealousy”…

    If thats the right word….

He did well for the Stormers.

Now if J.Fourie came from the BULLS it would not have suprised me one bit if everyone shouted FOUL…

    He had a shocker !!! 😯

  • 57

    OK Oneye,

If you’re not upset, why did you mention this off-side story then? Its the first I hear about this theory. And I mean you guys won – is there really a need for this fantasy now?

  • 58

The Saint leave Spies alone, the guy is in a class of his own. Francois Louw was the only Stormer who had a great game.

  • 59
