The Sharks have signed Sias Ebersohn from the Cheetahs! Sias the brother of Robert Ebersohn is a very good up and comming Flyhalf that at school level was rated higher then Robert.
The Sharks, who has statistically scored only one-and-a-half tries per game this season, have again put their trust in Andy Goode’s boot for their showdown with the Lions at Ellis Park on Saturday, but they have a more attacking option for the Currie Cup: The Cheetahs’ Young Turk, Sias Ebersohn. The former SA Under 21 star have followed a long line of Cheetahs pivots that have found the way to Durban to kick-start their careers. The list is long: Henry Honiball, Ruan Pienaar, Frans Steyn.
Ebersohn has apparently signed a contract with the Durban boykies. Good news for the Sharks, but sad news for the Cheetahs, who have also lost the services of Jacques-Louis Potgieter to the Bulls and Lionel Cronjé to the Stormers.
Goode heads back to France after the Super 14 and he hasn’t set Durban’s beach-front alight with his typical conservative European game.
Still, Goode looks a bargain compared to the ill-thought acquisition of Carlos Spencer who will be starting at fullback for the Lions. His counterpart, Patrick Lambie, has been one of the finds of the season.
And we buy another player from the Cheaters.. Amazing. Geez, they must hate us.. At least he is young and we can mould him to be a winner 🙂
Good on you Sharkies, very wise decision.
The Cheetahs had better shut up, they had a whole season of opportunity to play Ebersohn, but they stuck to their guns, shoving the youngster into the Vodacom Cup, he didn’t leave because of the money, he left because of the lack of interest by the Cheetahs coaching staff, again, congratulations Sharks, good buy.
Fukken poachers!
3 – Loosehead……hehehehe Then we poach them while young and mould them into stars…..hehehehe.
Well this puts paid to Lambie playing FH, which I think that is a good thing. Lambie must stick to FB he is going to be a great there. Also puts paid to Ruan playing FH and maybe the rumours of Ruan going over to Ireland to play club rugby may be true. Who knows? Just pleased we finally sign a SOUTH AFRICAN flyhalf.
Now come on Sharks we need centres too. Those are the only positions lacking at Sharks.
1 – Winston…hehehe. They Cheetahs must hate us, but their players don’t… 😀
Flok, I was working here whilst the Sharks sign Sias Ebersohn.
Farking Attorney clients, they actually expect MEEEEEE to work on a Friday!
7 – gbs, I hardly work on a Friday when the saffa teams are touring in Oz and Nz. Friday is rugby day….hehehehe.
Now hope the Bulls can do to the Reds what Stormers done to Chiefs. Think though Reds are a better team than the Chiefs at the moment.
8@ Puma – The Reds must not be underestimated, therefor one has to play them very cleverly… take out or neutralise their playmakers… Genia and Cooper and Ioane, also assert some forward dominance with rolling mauls, excellent set phases… and build a lead… take the points when on offer…
Oh, and the best weapon against them is to keep possession of the ball as much as possible!
The Reds can only score if the have the ball with enough time and space….
I’m sorry but a won’t call him decent.
I’ve watched a few games that he played at Vodacom Cup level and his defence and plays were very suspect. Not a great kicker either.
He does however have something exciting about him.
Sharks have lots of work ahead with him.
9 – Gbs, Bulls should win. Why the heck is the game on almost 10pm their time? Great for us though around 1.45pm here but they playing that time of night not good for the players to hang about the whole day to wait to play.
10@ Apockie – PSSSST… don’t tell the Sharks, but ANY BLOODY flyhalf would be decent compared to what they have at present… hehehehehe
10 – Apoc184, I think he has talent and maybe we can mould it into something great. We don’t have a FH so this is good news for the Sharks.
Sorry we once again take one of your young players. We also have Justin Botha from the Lions. He had a accident last year and not sure if he has recovered fully yet. Just heard about him from Scrumdown, heard he is very talented too.
12 – Gbs…..hehehehe. Just said it.. 😆
Remember we turn them into Boks at the Sharks. Ruan, Bissie, Frans…etc hehehe. We got them all young. 😀
11@ Puma – Bulls game is at 11:40am
15 – Gbs, Well thanks for telling me. I may have missed it. See you have it on your S14 fixture it says 1.40pm and so does it say that on Rugby365, says it is 9.40pm Brisbane time, that makes it 1.40pm here.
I would prefer 11.40am though.
I reckon the Cheetahs would do well to re-engage talks with Monty. He must be pissed by now. Sharks have made it clear that they have no confidence in him. Then Sharks can buy him back in a year’s time when we made a decent player out of him. Just like the Bulls with JLP. Hehehe.
Can’t really blame Sias. Obviously $$$$ will be more and he was most likely promised game-time on the big stage.
Good luck in KZN Sias.
Gbs, Just checked again your fixture for the game says 13.40pm. Now make sure what time the game starts. Cause Rugby 365 says the same time as your fixture time here.
17 – Apoc184, I always feel bad about Sharks taking your players. I just hope we turn him into a Bok. Think he should get plenty game time at the Sharks. Maybe they going to leave Lambie at FB. Plum was going to give Lambie a go at FH during the CC but now think Lambie has played so well at FB maybe he will just leave him there and play Sias at FH. We also have another youngster from the Lions Justin Botha who is supposed to be very talented. He got knocked down by a car that jumped a red light. So not sure if he has recovered proper.
Okay I am off. Catch up tomorrow.
Cheers Apoc and Gbs.
19 – Puma
I really don’t mind players going elsewhere. It is after all the professional era. So, please don’t feel bad that you can;t breed them but rather buy them :p
But my honest opinion is that he is average. If he was not he would have at least got a place on the bench for the Cheetahs Super 14 team.
And again, just my opinion but I feel that he has always been playing in Robert’s shadow. And maybe he wants to step out from that shadow.
I truly wish him the best of luck. And I hope he makes a big success with his career.
20@ Puma – It is at 11:40, I made sure with the TV broadcast times.
Game Threads have been scheduled for tomorrow’s 4 Super 14 Games!
Apoc mate i hear ya but when at school sias was rated much higher then robert, then last year in th bok under 19 side at the world champs sias was anything but average,
maybe the break away is like you said what he needed
the sharks now have 2 good up and comming flyhalves in Sias and Guy Cronje
