Die Lions are once again creating a Jaque Fourie, Willem Alberts and Louis Ludik situation. The Springbok prop, Heinke van der Merwe, has been relegated to the Vodacom Cup team. Is’nt that motivation enough for a player to look for greener pastures when his contract with his Home Union expires at the end of this season?

Heinke, a product of Monument Hoërskool, like Fourie & Alberts played in his 50th Super 14 game 2 weekends ago and has worn the Lions Jersey 90 times already, yet he is only 24 years old, well make that 35, it’s his birthday in 2 weeks time.

Apparently it is an open secret that the Bulls have been keen on Heinke’s services for a while now and although Heinke might not be in the form of his life one senses that at a good Union he might just bloom.

Similarly, the head of Willem Stoltz has also been relegated in favour of Wouter Moore. Stoltz has played 107 games for the GLRU.

The silly situation about this relegation fiasco is that Heinke and Stoltz will be allowed to play for the Vodacom Cup squad this weekend only, but according to competition rules not from the semi’s.

Is this another of the GLRU’s typical management mistakes and lack of forward planning?

You tell me!

    Heinke is being managed badly.

This oke is tremendously strong but lacks a bit of proper technique… he seems to scrum too much with his “skof”… what would that be in English… where a hunchback’s hump would be…. hehehehe.

After yet another dismal season, would you expect players with National aspirations to stay at a battling Union…. I would not think so!

    AMA-ZING !!!

Geez man, those okes at WTR really has it in for the Bulls and the Stormers, ffs!

I don’t think I am even allowed to blog there, but it may be better that way, I mean where would they go if I, The Saint, chase them off there as well? Personally I can’t take all the credit, their denial also needs to get some.

You’d think that they’d be humble, and support the SA effort, instead all I hear is that actually the Stormers and the Bulls are kak. That we are arrogant to suggest that they raise their game for Derbies, and that if the Bulls want to be the Best, they have to beat the Best (which I understand from Ed, is them).

    OMG!

they hate everyone else success , when JF went to the Stormers they wished he gets injured. Same to the Shark losses. Really i know they are desperate but keep your sportsmanship at least.

Read what they have to say about the Spears, sick man. It is their own mistake to buy Earl , no wonder the poor guy cant perform. Imagine the comments he hear from his own people.

I think that Tricky Dicky has been asked to give all of the players a chance int he Vodacom team as part of his rotation policy, basically so they all know the feeling of NOT PLAYING S14 NEXT YEAR!!!!!!

    10@ Scrumdown – Hehehe

Maar nou ja julle toy met hulle daar doe so voort. Ek kry darem ook so nu en dan my hou in.

Maar e het nou al sy ware kleure verskeie kere gewys , hy sit daar ver weg en like om karaktermoord te pleeg.

Willem Stoltz is 35 jaar oud.

13@ dWeePer – The timing of the relegations suck though, you’re not eligible to play in the semi’s if you have not played I think 3 games in the season in the Vodacom Cup already.

In Heinke’s case, he should have started back in the Vodacom Cup, not been relegated now… that’s not how you manage an injured player.

The Bulls on the other hand are doing it the other way round… Chilliboy has not played Super 14 this year, they start him off in Vodacom Cup… rightly so after a long absense.

Fact is Heinke and Stoltz will NOT PLAY in any Vodacom Cup semi’s…..

Ag JEEZ bliksem! this is exactly why the Lions are so bad. They have a lot of good players that goes through their system every year, but manage to lose them. Wtf? Lions management is useless.

They really do not understand professionalism. Its kinda ironic that the man that negotiated professionalism for South Africa almost 15 years ago comes from this very Union. Lions, good talent and a lot of money does NOT = modern rugby!
