The Bulls web site describes the win as follows:
The Vodacom Bulls are back on top of the Vodacom Super 14 log after beating the Chiefs 33-19 in Hamilton on Friday.
The Bulls, who scored twice in each half, was 15-13 up at the break, but some ill-discipline saw the home side surge ahead 19-15 through the boot of Stephen Donald. Mornè Steyn, who had a mixed day with the boot, kicked two penalties to get his side in front again and then Fourie du Preez struck.
The Bulls scrumhalf broke clear from halfway and although he was stopped short of the line, the Bulls held on to the ball and worked Gary Botha over. Steyn converted and with the Bulls 28-19 ahead with ten minutes to go, a first-ever win at Waikato stadium seemed imminent.
It was even more so when Du Preez intercepted a Chiefs pass and ran 80 meters to score, only for the try to be disallowed. Touch judge Kane Mcbride picked up a late tackle by Deon Stegmann in an earlier movement and instead of celebrating their bonus point try, the Bulls were looking at the Chiefs flyhalf to cut the deficit and bring the home side back in the game.
Incredibly, he missed from right in front. The Bulls then stepped it up once again and when Dewald Potgieter crashed over from a line-out maul, the home side were truly beaten.
The Bulls will be happy with their performances in the scrums and line-outs, where the rolling maul became more and more effective as the game wore on.
The backs defended stoutly and ran in a great try via Gerhard van den Heever. Zane Kirchner was outstanding in defence and the Chiefs could only break the Bulls defense lines with an opportunistic try by Brendon Leonard.

So ons “moan” nie !!!
BULLS !!!
McLook
Dit kon perfek gewees het as Morne “on song” was…
GBS @ 544
Are you trying to provoke a reaction?
Surely everyone knows the Lions will now go and beat the Sharks, Bulls and Cheetahs, thereby ensuring the enduring success of the management and administration, and vindicating tricky Dickie’s choice as DOR?
547 So true 😆
MOrne must be replaced by JLP for one game, and JLP must also replace WO in another game…
Question is, what games…
547, Scrumdown: you might not be far from wrong, especially the Sharks.
stem blouste want WO is ook seker moeg en hy vat harde knocks elke game…….doen nogal goed vir ‘n ‘pretty boy’ nê wezwp?
Hera a lot of whispering about Lions upsetting the Reds tomorrow….
What has the world come to… 😆
Goeie vraag: wanneer rus ‘n mens jou sleutelspelers ?
Habana, J.Fourie, Andries Bekker…
555: soos hul deesdae speel, rus hul tydens elke wedstryd ! 😉
Hamilton – Springbok scrumhalf Fourie du Preez produced a superb all-round display to seal a 33-19 victory for the Bulls over the Chiefs in their Super 14 match in Hamilton on Friday.
Du Preez, who had darted 40 metres through a back-pedalling defence to set up Gary Botha’s try to give the Bulls a 28-19 lead with 12 minutes remaining, had a try disallowed minutes later after he had scampered 70 metres following an intercept.
Referee Jonathan Kaplan instead returned to just outside the Bulls 22-metre area after advice from his assistant referee Kane McBride to issue a penalty against Deon Stegmann for a dangerous and late tackle.
Inside centre Stephen Donald, however, missed the easy penalty attempt and the fight went out of the home side, and a late Dewald Potgieter try gave the visitors a bonus point win and ensured they went to the top of the Super 14 table.
“It’s great to (finally) win here,” Bulls captain Victor Matfield said after his side won their first Super rugby game in Hamilton. “It’s always good to win in New Zealand (because) it’s the toughest place in the world to tour.”
Chiefs stand-in captain Liam Messam said it was a tough night.
“Mentally and physically we just came up short in the end,” Messam said. “It was physical. These are big South African men and we did our best to match them.”
The Bulls went into the break with a 15-13 lead courtesy of tries by wing Gerhard van den Heever and No 8 Pierre Spies, while Morne Steyn added a conversion and penalty, though he surprisingly missed three other kicks at goal.
Chiefs scrumhalf Brendon Leonard also capitalised on sloppy handling by Steyn to pick up a loose ball five metres out and force his way over.
Donald added a conversion and two penalties to ensure the gap was two points at the break before he added two more early in the second half to give the Chiefs a 19-15 lead.
Steyn added two more penalties before du Preez, whose cover defence had been superb, took the game by the scruff of the neck and ensured his side did not suffer their second successive defeat after they had lost 32-17 to the Blues last week.
In next weekend’s Round 10 action, the Bulls travel to Brisbane to face the Reds while the Chiefs host the Stormers in Hamilton.
565@ BiDiBiDi – Ek het gesê GOEIE rugby sites…. dis hoekom!

The Bulls were back to their rip-snorting best – and they needed to be – as they won a pulsating Super 14 match against the Chiefs in Hamilton to return to the top of the table.
A week after being out-muscled by the Blues, the defending champions rediscovered some venom in their forward play to lay the foundations for a 33-19 victory.
The defending champions also went back to some basics to regain their composure, relying heavily on their kick and chase game to set up a crucial win on the road.
The Chiefs pack weren’t embarrassed in the physicality stakes as they followed the Blues’ lead with Liam Messam, Hika Elliott and Craig Clarke impressive.
But their scrummaging expertise was again questioned and they didn’t come up with the answers.
Without this platform and with some frustrating turnovers continuing to plague their play, the Chiefs just didn’t have the polish to match their energy.
The loss, the fourth of their campaign and their third at home, will seriously dent their playoffs hopes.
The Bulls’ athletic No 8 Pierre Spies had a monstrous game in a great tussle with Sione Lauaki whose game is building after his belated entry into this campaign.
Spies had good support from fellow loose forwards Dewald Potgieter and Deon Stegmann while rugged lock Danie Roussow gave them plenty of momentum.
Fullback Zane Kirchner was commanding at the back as the Bulls gained their first win over the Chiefs in New Zealand.
This certainly wasn’t the blowout that occurred when the two teams met in last year’s final in Pretoria.
The Chiefs increased the pace of the match in the third quarter to stretch the Bulls but it was the visitors who finished stronger to claim the win.
They ran the inside channels to keep things close to their powerbase and were rewarded with a fourth try from a trademark maul just before the end to claim a bonus point.
Stephen Donald’s three missed penalties proved costly for the Chiefs who weren’t even able to salvage a bonus point in defeat.
The Bulls were quick out of the gate and opted not to maul off an attacking lineout and got reward when they went off the top to set up wing Gerhard van den Heever for the try as he sliced through the centre from 22m out. Unbelievably Steyn missed from next to the posts.
Steyn then made an immediate error from the kickoff when he was hustled by Brendon Leonard as he tried to gather in a kick and the Chiefs halfback picked up the loose ball and dived over for the try.
The penalties continued to mount against the Chiefs and when Stephen Donald hit Wynand Olivier with a high tackle Steyn made no mistake this time from in front.
The Chiefs put together some good attack to earn their own penalty in front of the sticks and Donald’s goal put them back in front.
But just as quickly they were under pressure at the other end as the Bulls forwards ripped them apart with Pierre Spies crashing through for the try.
Donald landed a difficult penalty to keep the Chiefs in touch as the Bulls led 15-13 at the break.
The Chiefs poured on to attack at the start of the second spell and earned two quick penalties in front that Donald goaled.
Ad Feedback Steyn replied twice at the other end as the match remained as tight as ever.
Springboks halfback Fourie du Preez showed his class to split the Chiefs defence open – and the game as well – with as sweet run up the middle and the Bulls managed to rumble hooker Gary Botha over for the try between the posts. Steyn’s conversion gave them a nine-point buffer with 12 minutes left.
Du Preez should have been rewarded with a try of his own, only to have a 70m intercept touchdown reversed because of a late shoulder charge by Stegmann on Lauaki in leadup play.
The Bulls’ search for the bonus point was rewarded when they gave up a kickable penalty and went in search of the fourth try through their maul and succeeded in sending Potgieter over.
great game bulls i knew you would win this week , , rudi i told you so 😆
569@ Tjarkie – Well, at least we can say that the Bulls AND the Sharks have not lost this weekend!
