The Bulls are back in SA and it is only fitting that we give an update on the previously injured players who have had injury problems since the start of the Super 14 Season.
The good news is that Bakkies is back into full training at the bulls. Whether he’ll be in the match 22 is an open question and depends on Bakkies himself and the medical staff. An achilles tendon injury has an extremely slow rocovery time and one would not want to gamble on a premature return. I would only play him from the bench to ease him into the squad and structures. One senses though that Bakkies must be foaming at the mouth to get back to business.
Chilliboy Ralapelle is also back in full training but I’d like to see him in the Vodacom Cup first.
Jaco Pretorius has also recovered from the eye socket injury and is also back… in this case I would make an exception and play him immediately in place of Stephan Dippenaar, after all Jaco has not been out for that long.
Akona Ndungane is still struggling with an injured knee and it is not clear whether he will be available for selection.
Jaco van der Westhuizen is in a similar position as Akona, still nursing a calf injury.
We will need Bakkies and Vic and Fourie du Preez and Morne Steyn… as well as Pierre Spies, to fire on all cylinders in the coming weeks leading up to the semi’s.. and thereafter.
I hope that Frans Ludeke’s choices are astute and that the game plan gets due attention, specially the plan around holding more possession and not kicking as much ball away needlessly!
Time to give the jaded Danie Pakslae a rest, maybe totally out of the match day 22. I certainly hope Morne Steyn has been practicing kicking to posts all week, with the old familiar ball we use in SA.
Wish I was a fly on the wall in all the Bulls team discussions this week…
gbs, Don’t think Morne will stuggle with kicking here. At the highveld he is used to it. Big difference at the coast and altitude also if we use the same balls as we are used to in SA. Think he will be fine back here.
2 – That is if Bulls can play at Loftus. Maybe we see Bulls at the Tank for the Sharks game π Also at Ellis Park for the Lions game π
What is happening about the games being played at Loftus? Have you heard anymore news?
Okay have to do some work. Back later.
4@ Puma – No news yet. I’ve asked Michelle Morison and Ian Swartz to let me know the minute they know.
Hallo all.
In “Beeld” I see they say that the game will be on Loftus, but there are no real facts given…
Pretoria β The Bulls will play their Super 14 game against the Lions at Loftus Versfeld this weekend after all.
It was rumoured on Monday that the chairperson of the parliamentary portfolio committee on sport, Butana Komphela, wanted to ban the Blue Bulls company (BBC) and Free State Rugby Union from using Loftus and Vodacom Park for the rest of the Super 14.
He is apparently of the opinion that the fields are in a poor condition and that further rugby may jeopardise the hosting of World Cup football matches in June and July.
The BBC said in a statement on Monday that they would not be commenting until the matter had been discussed with Komphela.
The dialogue will take place in Cape Town on Tuesday when the BBC appears in front of the committee with SA Rugby.
Komphela told SAPA that the request to meet with the BBC had been issued after the 100-days inspection when the field was in a poor condition.
He also told Stephen Nell: βWe are looking at what measures have been taken to accommodate World Cup 2010. It has not been said that Loftus may not be used. We are concerned about the state of the field β¦ maybe it has improved subsequently.β
SA Rugby indicated in a statement that the Vodacom Cup quarter-final between the Blue Bulls and Western Province would be played at Loftus Versfeld at 12h30 on Saturday. However, the match will be played on the B-field.
The match between the Bulls and Lions will be played in the stadium at 3pm.
No rugby has been played at Loftus in more than a month.
Another two games β against the Sharks and Crusaders β still have to be played at Loftus after the weekend.
The BBC has already indicated that a possible semi-final and final will be played in Sowetoβs Orlando Stadium should the Bulls have to host the matches
Also see Todd Clever is out for the Lions and possibly Doppies le Grance too…
For the Bulls game that is.
8@ Blouste – This weekend’s game at Loftus was never in doubt as far as I’m concerned, too short notice to move it elsewhere.
In fact I’ve already received my official invitation from the Bulls Union to attend and I’ve received the whole schedule for the day… regarding road closures, The Vodacom Cup game ect…
The next 2 matches at Loftus is what worries me… we will know later though, what the outcome was, and as I said on another thread, I will report on the pitch conditions on Saturday myself
Is Jano alright i saw something about him out for the season
Coach records at the Lions in the Super 14
Coach Period Matches Won Win Ratio
Dick Muir 2010 – 9 – 0 – 0%
Eugene Eloff 07-09- 39 – 11 – 28.2%
I asked it before , no one responded.
Will DM still be a believable Springbok assistant coach if this trend goes on and he ends up with 0 wins in the S14?
What will PdV do?
Muir was always overrated imo.
He buggered up the Sharks if you ask me…
# 12
So as die Stormpies terug is by die huis dan skop Grant weer akkas… π
superBul
Dick Muir sal steeds assistant coach bly, almal se mos nou dis die Leeus se spelers wat so kuk is. It is true in a certain sense, but if Dick Muir had any talent whatsoever, he’d have given them a fair opportunity to shine, instead of telling them defense isn’t important, and running is everything.
If you don’t have the special individuals, you keep the balls close. Only the HYPER talented can run everything, and even they get hung-up from time to time, ask the Blues.
DM won’t stop until the Boks are hanging out to dry next year after the WC.
You know what would make a good read as an Article…. the Number of players each Super 14 Franchise has used in this year’s competition, on the field.
I would hazard a guess that the Bulls and Strompoppies have been the 2 teams who have used the least amount of players, it seems they have largely opted for consistency in selection all season.
Similarly I’d guess that Dicky Muir has used to largest amount of different players in 1 season.
Is it not more simple, Morne is off form, he knows how to kick , that no one doubt.
Grant was never before so successful , he worked on his kicking and i must say this , I am impressed.
Maybe Morne and Flokkie just miss one little thing , someone might just point it out and viola back to normal.
There was one real woerwoer kick last week, it shows just one thing timing is out. WORK< WORK is all they need to do.
Blouste
#19
Thank you Super, my point exactly. It has nothing to do with the balls.

@ 20
Klink my jy het ‘n gemoedsbe- :poop: -king…
GBS
Maar Grant was tegnies nog nooit swakker as 70%, sover as akkuraatheid gaan nie. Ek dink overall is hy beter daaraan toe as Pietersen.
@ 23
