This is not a bad Sharks team although one can question a few obtions taken by Plumtree, the biggest being the choice of captain? surely after the successes Stefan Terblanche has had last season as capt should have counted in his favour?
The Sharks have sprung a surprise or two when they announced their team for the match against the Highlanders earlier today.
Coming into fullback is Patrick Lambie who has been knocking for some time , this young player who is a natural full back with an educated boot, he although not big on stature is a very brave player that punches above his weight.
With injuries to Odwa Ndugane, Stefan Terblanche moves to the right wing position which comes as a surprise as another youngster in Mvovo should surely have been given a chance.
Other changes to the Sharks team come in the forward pack as onto the bench goes Alberts as Deysel replaces him in the starting lineup, also being rotated is J Smit as Bismark gets a start.
The only reason that comes to mind for J Smit not starting is that maybe the coach feels he would like to finish the game with his Captain to try finish off the close games that they have been losing, the last 3 games the Sharks lost was with Smit having been subbed.
The rest of the team speaks for itself although one must ask the question of where is Wilhelm Steenkamp? is he injured? he played well for the Sharks in the game time he got.
Sharks team as follows:
The Sharks: 15 Patrick Lambie, 14 Stefan Terblanche, 13 Adrian Jacobs, 12 Riaan Swanepoel, 11 JP Pietersen, 10 Andy Goode, 9 Ruan Pienaar, 8 Ryan Kankowski, 7 Jean Deysel, 6 Keegan Daniel, 5 Johann Muller (captain), 4 Steven Sykes, 3 Jannie du Plessis, 2 Bismarck du Plessis, 1 Tendai Mtawarira.
Replacements: 16 Craig Burden, 17 John Smit, 18 Alistair Hargreaves, 19 Willem Alberts, 20 Jacques Botes, 21 Rory Kockott, 22 Waylon Murray.
Date: Saturday, March 20

Info on Patrick Lambie:
Yet to reach 19 years old, Lambie was drafted into The senior Sharks side having been an outstanding contributer to the Under 21s’ success and the tournament’s top scorer at the halfway mark of the competition. Blessed with a calm temperament, skillful and an educated boot, big things are expected of him at The Sharks.

Mvovo surely deserved to start this game. I hope they fire plumtree at the end of the season.
Jannie du plessis is k@k and should be relegated to the vodacom cup.
#1 agreed, #2 with Herbst only arriving today means he wont beable to play and Carstens is injured
so JDup will have to play
but that he is a concern is no doubt
Sh1t, had I of known that Smit was benched I would not have picked the Tjarks on Superbru.
3 – Sharky, Pleased to see Lambie getting a chance, just why they heck we have Jannie who is a walking penalty about to happen or Jannie can not catch. In the starting side is a problem. I would just have started with Herbst. If Jannie messes up again with yellow cards, penalties or dropped catches. He must be dropped right out not even on the bench.
I understand Smit getting rest. Also Plum has to look after him. Like Saders are doing with their senior players. McCaw rested for the first 2 and a half games. Though against the Landers who has a good scrum maybe this is the time we needed Smit to start. Remember we out scrummed them last year. With Jannie there not so sure of that 🙄
Mvovo should have been given a start in this game. So daft to have him on tour and never give him a chance. How will we ever know what we have in him if he never gets a chance.
Muller too is not captain. If Smit is on the bench then Stefan should have been captain seeing they never selected Mvovo.
6 – Meant seeing they never selected Mvovo and have Stefan playing instead. Then why is Stefan not captain and Muller is? Muller really is not up to being a captain.
I would rather have had Mvovo to start if Muller had to be captain then left Stefan out for this game. Just to see what Mvovo can do. Sharks have nothing to lose at this stage, more to gain really to see what our youngsters can do.
hiyas puma mate i think some of the problems you find i tried answering in the article
always remember we dont know the behind the scene problems or injuries
this is not a bad team , and like you id like to see mvovo but you realise that he too has some shortcommings that is no doubt a concern to the coach
8 – Sharky, Yes we really don’t know what is happening there. Injuries they should let us know. Why have they brought Herbst over? Then not to use him? Instead have Jannie there again. He has cost us a lot I think.
Also now facing a really good scrum the Landers have we leave Smit out? I know he HAS to be looked after like Os was but this is the time we should really be starting with him at Hooker where he scrums very well.
Mvovo should be given a chance buddy, hell man, I feel for this youngster being kept out. He played so well in the CC. If we never play him he will never improve either, rather go backwards as he is not even on the bench getting game time. Also now Lambie finally gets a chance which I am thrilled to see, but he too does not have game time. Still cant wait to see him play.
Mvovo on the win instead of Stefan would have been better.
Just have to hope. Don’t see us winning this one either. Hoping like crazy but not too sure. Landers are a far not a bad team at all. Also we have a all kiwi match officials.
Just hope for the best that is all we can do.
Sorry for the English there……hehehe. Typing too fast and brain going too slow. Or brain going too quick and typing too slow…… 😀 one or the other…hehe.
puma herbst only arrived yesterday , no ways he can play , hardly had time to train
you have to realise with lambie starting plum could nt afford another rookie next to him
thus stefan and Jpp on the wings
if stefan stayed on the wing then yes they could have gone for mvovo on the wing
12 – Sharky, if he only arrived yesterday then I understand. If he arrived the day before I would have gambled and played him instead of Jannie. Who has cost us plenty.
We have nothing to lose buddy, but more to gain out of seeing these youngsters play now. We are a goner in this tourney. We finish 10 or 8 or 9 or 2nd means nothing. Only a win would do. So now that we are out of it, Sharks should be trying things out.
Well for now good to see Lambie there at least. Looking forward to seeing him play. He may not be game fit though. So let us not judge him after this game, that would be unfair. Rather after a few games there.
thats where ur wrong mate
there is everything to lose and that includes jobs
there is a coaching staff etc that has to answer after the tour
read on news 24 and you will understand
Puma’s wishes have finally been answered,Lambie finally gets a start this weekend..
I would give up a months salary to see that liability Jannie Kan Nie Scrum nie never play for the Sharks again,he is rubbish..
Would be great if Mvovu even got a place on the bench 🙂
I really hope Lambie is all he is cracked up to be. The Sharks need a new young star in the back line.
Aaaanyway, we will have to wait and see, cause the last time Lambie played at FB, that I saw, was against the Force and Stormers in that tri-tournament before the start of the season. And then he did not do all that well.
I m moerse excited thoughThis weekend sees two young SA talents being introduced into the S14 in Tim Whitehead and Lambie.
Whitehead has been coming through the WPRU structures for years now, and he is just as exciting.
Add to that at outside center Robbert Ebersohn and the National Selectors should be looking at the RWC backline squad for 2015…
Can’t remember where now, but I read somewhere that Smittie rolled his ankle in training or something. Couldbe been keo or twitter or somewhere. Quite excited to see Lambie have a run. Really hoping we will see the young props have a run too – although I suspect Herbst will probably play of the wood next week.Back in SA we should be seeing some gametime fron Pat Cilliers, Herbst, and then the speedy guys Mvovo and Vulindlu. There’s a lot of talent sitting back in SA. Give them a couple runs of the bench this S14, play them a bit in the Currie Cup and they’d be (almost) ready to step up to the big stage come the S15.
I’m not saying anything about Jannie as he gets my blood boiling just thinking about him.
