GBS – g’day mate. Lions are certainly in a state at the moment, with very little in the way of positives for them to work on. Defence would be the likely starting point.
Waratahs have a real fight on their hands, in Sydney. This is the opening weekend of the rugby league season in Sydney, the critics are demanding quality rugby. Crowds will stay away in droves at future home games if the Tahs don’t get their act together. 17,000+ tonight is an indication of the disenchantment. Not long ago, homes games attracted 30,000.
298 – Polla the Lions crici side are playing well. Going to be a cracker tonight against the Warriors and Lions.
Helo to all you jobless ruggabloggers out there!
Jeepers, what a business, just got in from Mampoer Valley, and checked the scores, eishhhh!
OldGriqua
G’day, did you check out that article with the Griqua team photo the other day, about the 1970 All Blacks to SA?
I am sure you will recognise many old mates there.
Puma – howzit mate? Hope you’re well and recovered from last weekend? Highlight of this weekend’s draw is going to be the Sharks v Brumbies game. Looking forward to it . . .
Pietman – long time no speak. My best wishes to you, mate.
302 – Old Griquas, The crowds will be back if they see a winning side. That happens. The Tank where my Sharks play used to get 50 000 supporters every week. Now we getting around 30 000 and if we lose more overseas that will drop too. Supporters want to see their teams winning.
Pietman – no, I missed the photo. I’ll have a look right now and see if it’s still up. Thanks for the heads up mate.
303@ Pietman – Hello broer, nee dit was nag vir ons Saffas vandag…. ek wil wragtig nie weet hoe voel dit om ‘n getroue Lions ondersteuner te wees nie!
302 – Puma, yes, you’re right on the money there. Winning is what brings the crowds. Got a feeling you’re going to be happier after this weekend’s result!
305 – Old Griquas, Yip I am over the loss of last week. Now looking forward to the game against the Brumbies tomorrow. Feel my Sharks will struggle. I hope not.
309 – Old Griquas, Hope so. Think Brumbies are a good team. So just hoping. Sharks are better than what they are producing at the moment. So hoping for a better game from them too tomorrow.
290 Griqua
Where abouts on the central coast…I am in the North west Sydney.
307 – Old Griquas, That photo is still up. Go back last week to Tuesday look for the thread of thd 1970 All Black tour to SA. Good read that and you will see your old team there.
Old Griquas
Check older entries, AB’s in Kimberley and Upington.
GBS
I missed the games, went into the mountains early this morning to buy fie wood and plum mampoer from our ‘local brewery’ 🙂
Some interesting old folks out here, still distilling ‘moonshine’ in the old traditional way, ek het het lekker geproe daar by die mampoerketels!
GBS
Its nice to have a good win but a rout is a rubbish game.
No edge og the seat stuff in this game other than to go get a beer or head to have a pee!
Forgot, Hello Piet, How you doing?
Hog die af getredes nou weer die blog? 😆
315 – Walla, think your edge of the seat game will only come when your team plays Saders. Think that is in two weeks time. Tahs should beat the Force easy.
Best game of the tourney so far is still that Bulls/Tahs game at Loftus. Tahs although lost there played really well. Great game to watch. Bulls were just too good, the are playing some great rugga at the moment.
Puma
All well thanks brudda, went mampoer tasting in the mountains this morning, potent stuff that, came home to rest a while and take a quick shower, a bit ‘geswaai’ at the moment, that stuff is like ‘ouwde jenewer’, I kid you not!
319 – Piet…..hahahaha. Read that. Must be potent. Sounds like the stuff we used to make ourselves in Saudi.
Just one glass of that stuff and you feel out of it…..hahahaha.
319@en het daai klein vroutjie ook mampoer gedrink
Pietman – had a quick look at the history thread. Excellent reading – going back soon to read all of it. It might not be of interest to everyone, but for us, it was our lives.
I had a beer with Grant Batty awhile back. He was a tough little man in those days. We played a golden oldies game against each other. He captained one side and I did the other. We had a ball and a great laugh.

Nee, sy is by die winkel, ek het gaan ‘aankope doen’, alleen, toe haak ek vas daar tussen die mampoerstokers!
Wallabie – I’m at Bateau Bay, just north of Terrigal. I can hear the surf pounding in the background . . .
Old Griqua
True.
Grant still sporting that red bushy moustache, does he?
I met BG Williams on that tour, in Upington, he was a 19 year old law student then, from Ponsonby, very shy and withdrawn because of all the politics surrounding his inclusion in the team, today he is a judge in Auckland….
Good memories those, as you say.
Pietman stuur vir haar baie liefde en groede uit Hoedspruit.Ons mis haar.
322 – Old Griquas, Go back two weeks back think the first one of the articles on the 1970 ABs tour here was posted on a Tuesday night. Then again last Tuesday and then whis Tuesday and Wednesday night. Scroll back and read from the start. Good reading and yes, for us oldies it is like going down memory lane. I enjoyed reading it.
SuperBul will put more up of that tour next Tuesday. We want to actually make Tuesday night rugby history night. That would be really good.

Jy in Hoedspruit?
Hoe ken jy my vrou, ek raak nou bekommerd…..
Old Griqua
That is awesome…hearing the ocean at night makes a good night sleep.
How did you end up there..I take it you recently moved to Aus?
324 – Old Griquas, Sounds like you live in a great place. I love to hear the surf too. I do have a home in Umhlanga but not right by the beach. Only a 5min drive though so that is good. For now up in my Joburg home. Just not the same as being at the coast though.
