The South African Rugby Union (Saru) are not planning any action against Stormers captain Schalk Burger after the Springbok flanker struck referee Mark Lawrence lightly on the arm in Saturday’s Super 14 match at Newlands.

The incident came after Lawrence had intervened in a scuffle between Burger and Highlanders captain Jimmy Cowan.
Saru communications chief Andy Colquhoun told Sport24 that Saru referees boss André Watson had reviewed the incident and also spoken to Lawrence about it. He decided then that there would not be further action.
“If there are any real incidents of players manhandling referees, we will view it in a very serious light,” Colquhoun said on Watson’s behalf.
Lawrence already said on Sunday that there was nothing in the Burger incident.
Stormers coach Allister Coetzee emphasised on Monday that it had been an accident.
“I think Schalk was hit by Cowan and for him it was like another Highlander joining in. There was no malice or intent,” said Coetzee.
“It was just a reaction and he probably got a huge fright when he saw it was the referee. Mark also saw it in that light.”
Morning folks,
Now I wonder if a neutral ref i.e. someone who does not know Schalk well, would have viewed this incident in the same light?
I’m glad they see this in this light, nobody will tell me Schalla had any ill intentions against the referee, whatsoever.
Storm in a tea cup… sensationalism… call it whatever you like.
We know that that is the case, GBS.
My question remains: would a neutral ref had seen it this way?

The question realy is…Would Schalck have done that to a neutral referee..?
Probably not…so there you go…
3@ Kitaartjie – I certainly hope so, one would have to be really daft to think that Schalla would be stupid enough to do it deliberately.
Burger is not that kinda person. Think it was made out to be bigger than it actually was.
IT WAS A JOKE !!!
Non-event.
Boring our lives must be to be discussing this.
Hokaai,
Pleased to meet you.
Does anyone know where I can find this on the net? Can’t remember seeing the incident.
Sorry I don’t have a link for you, Onerb.
But in view of posting #8 above, just make sure that Hokaai doesn’t find out about your interest in this matter, whatever you do. 😉
I will stop my interest in this case immediately. Sorry jou onner!
Hello, Fender. Nice meeting you too.
Saw the incident last night on SuperRugby or something, the Afrikaans one on Kyknet.
Surely there must be something more interesting?
Such as, when are the Bulls Babes back?…hehe.
#12 Onerb
Hehe!!
Ja, its best that he doesn’t spot you. We know him as Hokaai, but his friends know him as Hawkeye. Apparently, he doesn’t miss a thing….. 😉
#12 and 13
Damn, seems I was wrong…Hokaai does sometimes miss a thing or two – like the Bulls Babes, hehe!
Well done Fender. Hokaai is the Afrikanization of Hawkeye…
More specifically the lead actor in the series MASH.
My girlfriend claims I look and act just like Hawkeye. So I became Hokaai, the Afrikaans version of Hawkeye.
