The Lions have sent an SOS to their gamebreaking scrumhalf Jano Vermaak to join them in Australia ahead of Saturday’s Vodacom Super 14 match against the Waratahs.
Vermaak, who returned to action in the Vodacom Cup game for the Lions against the Valke last weekend and came through unscathed, will be joined by winger Wigan Pekeur on the flight as a replacement for Dusty Noble.
Noble limped off the field early in the loss against the Brumbies, and has torn his cruciate ligaments in his knee, leaving him out of action for the rest of the year.
Lions coach Dick Muir consulted the Vodacom Cup coach Timmy Goodwin about Vermaak, and was obviously happy with what he heard. Vermaak is set to arrive in Sydney on Tuesday and could be a surprise starter for Saturday’s match.
On the positive side, Lions flyhalf Carlos Spencer, who missed last weekend’s game with a pectoral muscle injury, has been declared fit and will be back at flyhalf this weekend.
Jano, when on song will be an huge improvement to the Lions team…
A very talented player…
Jano is a playmaker and astute tactitian… it will improve the Lions, for sure, but I must say I was impressed with Jacques Coetzee at scrummie (from the Pumas).
I was not impressed with JP Joubert as Lions scrummie just as I was never impressed by Tewis de Bruin at the Cheetahs where Sarel Pretorius is miles better than Tewis
I read that Jano Vermaak is a bit rusty
Great player,he’d probably start at 9 for most countries around the world,we just have an abundance of 9’s and no 10’s.
4 – Hello Winston, Yip right there, we have abundance of really good scrummies in this country.
4 – winston
Who’s the tens ?
Hallo Puma…
To my mind the best scrummies, all of International standard, in SA are:
Fourie du Preez
Jano Vermaak
Ruan Pienaar
Sarel Pretorius
Ricky Januarie
Francois Hougaard
Then there are still very good okes like Kockott, Dewalt Duwenhage… ect Our problem in SA is definately not amongst loosies or scrummies… we’re rather one or 2 tight heads short, we lack depth at flyhalf (after Morne and J-L Potgieter), we’re short one or 2 outside centres and we are light on wing after Habana…. except that guys like Mapoe and Nokwe seem to be coming through nicely. At fullback we have a few…
Lol,I meant NO 10’s,not number 10’s 🙂
Hello Blouste.

Ok , thought I as missing something… 😆
Puma, how are you bud ?
11 – Blouste very well. See Bulls are playing Friday night. Good. Missed having some rugby to watch last Friday night.
Yes , they normally strugle more on a Friday night…
Hope thats something they’ve left behind.
Also registered for the IPL just now, but dont know any of the teams either…
Might just aswell make all my picks right now 😆
Bulls are playing on Satuday, not Friday… SAT 13 March
strugle = struggle

Good stuff !!!
As hul dan in hul plaaslike toernooie kan speel sal dit great wees…
17 – Blouste, really wish that Arg was in the 4Nations this year. Going to be good for their rugby and also make that tourney lot more interesting. More travel for all the teams.
They have to play their best side though. Wish that a combined PI team could be included too. They all play good rugby and deserve to be in this tourney.
The Lions have been toothless without Jano, they’ll be 30% stronger by just adding him to their line-up.
Lions seem to be thin at SH, their second half SH (don’t care to know his name) would look civilian against most, if not all Varsity Cup SH’s.
27 – Fires, Vermaak though is a great scrummie.
Fires…
Long time no see…
Hope all is well on your side…
