Which storm is going to be greater, the Hurricane or the Cape Storm? Hurricanes coach Colin Cooper has opted for experience when his team faces the Stormers in Cape Town this weekend.
The Hurricanes have one of the best attacking sides in the tournament but they will be going up against the best defence in the tournament this weekend.
Cooper hopes that the experience of All Blacks Conrad Smith and Tamati Ellison will be able to unlock the Stormers defence and has named the duo to return this weekend after they were both ruled out for last weekend’s loss against the Cheetahs.
After four matches the Stormers have conceded just two tries and prevented the Highlanders from scoring any points at all last weekend. At the same time the Stormers scored four tries for a bonus point.
Cooper has also dropped Aaron Cruden to the bench in favour of Willie Ripia while in the forwards Jacob Ellison comes in for John Schwalger and Scott Waldrom takes over from Karl Lowe.
“Tamati and Conrad slip straight back into it with their experience,” Cooper told NZPA.
“We know they will have a massive crowd there and obviously they are coming off a high, having beaten the Highlanders, so we have gone for experience particularly in the backs.
“They play a pretty wide game, have a lineout drive that’s been successful and a scrum that’s pretty good also.”
Cooper said the Hurricanes would be more comfortable this weekend having come down from altitude back to sea level and having recovered from travelling to South Africa.
There was also an edge to the side after last weekend’s loss.
“We will be put to the test this weekend … we just have got to be a lot smarter than we were last week.”

Hi Janne en Henne,
The familiarity of the loss against the Brumbies followed by a great game against the Landers has got me worried. Is the Stormers spook i.e. win-one-lose-one up and riding again.
The fact that the Canes have come off a loss doesn’t exactly help either…
But nevertheless, go Stormers!!
morning everyone (except bulls of course)
This Canes team gives me sleepless nights.
I believe the Canes will be to hot to handle this weekend.
