After this weekends overdose of Rugby, it is hard to start writing a match report. Where do you start. The games on Friday is almost erased out of your mind after the humdinger that was played at Loftus last night.
Tests
Wales 20 v 26 France Millennium Stadium, Cardiff
The second half brought out the best in the Welsh. They worked their way back in with forward play that was simply better-executed and which conjured up two penalties from Stephen Jones. They scored a super try through Leigh Halfpenny. They should have equalised when Jamie Roberts made a clean break and inexplicably held on to the ball when the pass to James Hook was both easier and more effective.
In the end, they ran out of steam.
Italy 16 v 12 Scotland Stadio Flaminio, Rome
A single try proved enough for Italy to snatch their first Six Nations victory in two years.
It wasn’t pretty. Not by a long way. But as the saying goes, a metre is as good as a mile and two points for a win is all that counts.
England 16 v 20 Ireland Twickenham, London
Victory means that Ireland have kept alive their hopes of retaining the Six Nations and they will be hoping for England to do them a favour in Paris.
Super 14
Crusaders 35 v 6 Sharks Christchurch
The scoreline doesn’t reflect the tussle between these two sides, and the Sharks were still in the contest with ten minutes of the match remaining. However, three touchdowns from the hosts during that time effectively ended this physical encounter as a contest.
Stormers 17 v 19 Brumbies Cape Town
In a match this tight it was always going to be one error or moment of magic that was going to be decisive and in the end it was a long pass from Stormers tighthead prop Bok Harris that was intercepted by one of the Brumbies old masters, flank George Smith, that swung the game.
Hurricanes 33 v 18 Lions Wellington
The Hurricanes laboured to a bonus-point win over the Lions in the Super 14 on Saturday, rarely breaking out of second gear.
Reds 18 v 27 Blues Brisbane
The Blues put in a convincing performance to come from behind to beat the Reds in a tight game at a very wet Ballymore on Saturday.
Despite the torrid conditions, the protagonists produced an entertaining match as the Super 14 returned to Ballymore for the first time in four years.
Force 19 v 37 Chiefs Perth
The Chiefs continued their dream start to the season when they took their record to a perfect three wins from three starts
Cheetahs 24 v 31 Highlanders Bloemfontein
The hosts were expected to record their first back-to-back wins in Super Rugby since rejoining the competition in 2006, against a Highlanders side that lost their two opening matches. However, ill-discipline and poor defence cost the Cheetahs dearly. They conceded far too many penalties in kickable positions, and were often found wanting in defence.
Bulls 48 v 38 Waratahs Pretoria In what was an enthralling encounter, the hosts had to overcome a 17-point deficit to beat a spirited Waratahs outfit who – like the Brumbies before them – surged into an early lead but failed to go the whole nine yards. At the end the Bulls, as they do so well, fought back with some judicious kicks and pinned the Waratahs in their own half.
Morning SuperB
How is that new grand-baby doing ? Well I hope 😀
What is the deal with the Convicts ? They simply cannot be trusted to play the way they should so my SuperBru runs smoothly 😡
Morning Rugby Princess, Lesson one, never go against the Bulls at Loftus 😆
How you this morning?
Morning, where are you all, sit down with a cup of coffee and I find you are all out braaing or lunching…?
Well that was one hec of alot of rugby this weekend and your families are probably glad to see you turn your TV and PC off for a bit!!
Enjoy your cold beers, setslappes or whatever….
Puma, I have sent superBul some photos from the Welsh match, but I think what with new grandchild and keeping RT central going you may have to give him some breathing space!!!! 😆
Ok, so here are my thoughts…….
Sharks are an unhappy side, there is lots of sh1t going on in this camp. Expect the coach to go, and go quickly. They were such a good side when they were poaching from the Cheetahs, now they are scraping the bottom of the barrel by poaching from the Lions.
Lions, expect this competition to be renamed the S13 + The Lions
WP, have looked good at times, but missed Schalk. Have yet to learn that props should not be running [and passing to the Brumbies] at outside centre.
Cheetahs, the ugly sister…….man they should have kicked for poles……Juan is not a captain. They need a 9……….what has happened to the all beating front row?
Bulls, look like champions.
4 – Loosehead, So Sharks looked a good side poaching from Cheetahs!! Hey, maybe we missing something. Need to go back to the Free State to see who wants to swim with us..hehehe. 😆 Joking of course. We should be playing some of our youngsters. That is where we should be looking.
Damn that was a great game with Bulls and Tahs last night. One of the best I have seen in a very long time.
Bulls have set the bench mark for sure. They are in a class of their own. Best team in the S14 so far.
Can someone explain to this simpleton how a Tahs player got MOTM ahead of Steyn and Olivier?
What a disgusting gesture from whoever selects the MOTM>
If that was a joke, it would’ve been a bad friggen one!
Sorry i was caught napping Eskom(our State power company) gave us notice 2 weeks ago that the power would be off from 07h00-1700 today , i did not warn anybody , and the power came on 30 minutes back, very unstable, maybe too much load now, but i am back and will do my bit.
8 – Super, Think it is the power-shedding back. We were off about a week and a half back from 9pm until 4am in the morning. Our whole area. Then GBS was off last Friday since about 10am. Think it was the whole of Brakpan.
Also heard my daughter say where she lives in Durban they were off last week for about 5 hours. Then Fires that was posting here said they also were off in Dec.
I know for a fact that Power Shedding is coming back next year. Just never thought it would start this year. Think maybe they trying to save some power for during the WC so we don’t have any shortage then and rather cut us off now from time to time. Tell you what I that nonsense starts again I will be out of here. Never ever going to live like that again.
Puma i think there was work done here. I know the Eskom guys here and they said something had to be replaced. Also saw all the Eskom trucks coming back to base.
10 – Super, well that is good news then. Just hope that Load Shedding does not start again this year. Heard though it will start again next year. Really hope not.
Super going to watch something on TV. Back Later.
CONGARTULATIONS BULLS
To all bulls supporters, your team looks fantastic and i am very happy for you, not only because you are my second choice team, but because most bulls supporters have not been vindictive and rubbed us Shark supporters nose in it with our team being so dreadfull this year.
For those wondering why so many Sharks are supporting the bulls , there it is, and maybe because we also know they nearly a sure thing to win this year, BUT THE SHARKS WILL BE BACK STRONGER THAN EVER.
BRING ON JAKE WHITE
Oh and to think they didnt have Bakkies and Spies playing or the over rated Habana shows how good they are.
With out the Sharks there to give a proper challenge, they are going to walk this competition.
