Welcome to  the third day of the first India-South Africa Test.  A lot rides on the openers today from India’s point of view. In fact Steyn and Morkel v Sehwag and Gambhir has been the big contest within the contest. This contest over four innings could well decide which way the series goes.

6.3 136.3 kph, No doubt this time. The death knell. It landed on a length around the off stump line, cut in and caught Smith out. Smith was very tentative in defense, moved his arms rather awkwardly and got the bat in an angle. The ball moved through the bat and pad gap to clean up the stumps. Clatter! Good ball, poor defensive effort. 6/2
View dismissal AG Prince c †Dhoni b Khan 0 19 10 0 0 0.00
4.3 128.4 kph, Given out caught behind but it went of the arm-guard. Now then… now then .. What a ferocious delivery. Zaheer Khan serves up a well-directed bouncer at the face. A stunned Prince takes out the bottom-hand off the handle and offers the bat as a face-shield. The ball crashes into the arm-guard and pops up to Dhoni. It has been given out. Prince staggers out towards Smith, perhaps asking whether we have UDRS here. No. And off he goes. 5/1

    Helloooooooooooooooo

Oirish, wait for the Team announcements… we will have Preview Threads for the games on Thursday.

During the 1st weeks in the competition there will be a lot of guess work, till we see how they shape.

Crusaders for a win is ALWAYS a good bet, so too Brumbies and Bulls.

The Sharks are dark horses, with their backline being so dodgy at the moment….

I think the Stormers will beat the Lions, even at the Coke Tin.

  • 62

    puma @ 59
yep, he was about to take the game away from us.
now we just need to get rid of dhoni, and things would look a lot better for us.

  • 63

60 – GG, Don’t even mention Frans Steyn that is a damn sore point with me..haha. Really how we lost him is so damn crazy. Not just for the Sharks but the Boks. HUGE loss for next years world cup and of course my sharks will miss him this year huge.

Yeah, just one or two injuries and the whole team changes. Remember last year Ruan got injured, that put paid to seeing how well Fransie and Ruan would play at FH and inside centre for a season, Fransie was not good at FH. Also we lost Deysel to injury, with those two out we started to struggle.

This year don’t think we will have Adi, Ruan or Swannie to start. All still have injuries well Ruan getting over that op. He has trained with the team. So who knows he may start, but for me that would be foolish, let him get over that knee op 100%. Maybe bring him on in the 2nd half against the Cheetahs, or leave him for the overseas leg.

I am the same mate, support all the South African teams 100% except when they are playing the Sharks of course, otherwise behind our boys who ever they play for.

  • 64

Ja Puma, you guys will hopefully win on Sat. Playing the Crusaders, Bulls, Brumbies, Waratahs and Hurricanes away. IMO all of these teams are serious title contenders, so the Sharks should take all their home-games and take one or two of these big guns away if they are to be in with a shot. Its gonna be a tough season. Lots of luck.

    Hope you prove me wrong.

i like the spelling of #65 the best .. it makes you sound like the “loony tunes” 😆

  • 69

64 – GG, Don’t have much hope for my sharks on their away tour. We play all the top teams on their home turf.

Don’t see us winning much over there. Highlanders probably and maybe pick up another win over there but that is far as I think it will go. Those teams are really great teams. We also play Bulls at Loftus. We have a really, really dreadful draw this year. Also only 6 games at the Tank. Not sure what the season ticket holders will be thinking. I never bought a season ticket was going too but not with only 6 games at home and against not the tops sides, except Chiefs, Blues and Stormers. We don’t even get a international this year. So will rather wait and get a season ticket for next year.

Good luck to Stormers mate, they should do well this year. I do hope so as we need SA teams up there in the semi. They have a very good chance this year.

  • 70

    GBS, hoe ganit daai kant?

I think yo are right. Really the first few rounds does involve a lot of guess work, and you can only go on warm ups. Which doesn’t even say much in itself.

Funny how we have 6Nations and varsity cup to watch but everyone would agree that the “real” rugby only start this upcoming weekend.

Back to the Cricket guys. Glad to see Sehwag gone. But Badrith… is on 52 and Dhoni is a little master! SA needs to redeem themselves after this slaughter against the English.

  • 71

btw, any of you guys went and watch the stormers/boland game?
your take on the new stadium?

  • 72

    puma @ 69
hey puma, ek sien djy kap my met ñ “ignore”, nê?

  • 73

Jeese Puma, thats rough hey. How mush is it for a season ticket?

BTW, I am not sure if Paul Harris is the most useful or useless player ever…

  • 74

Ash, I only saw the pics and the video, but from what I saw and heard it seems as though the Stadium was a bigger highlight than the on field action.

  • 75

68 – Ash….. 😆 We need to take his wicket and soon.

How you enjoy the new stadium in Green Point Ash?

  • 76

Guys, since I am in Korea, can anyone give me their thoughts on the recent SA tennis open? Any future prospects?

  • 77

71@ Asbakkie – According to Isigidi the Stadium and atmosphere was great but the traffic situation and parking around the Stadium was one big heap of chaos!

They still have a couple of trial runs to get that right, apparently the preacher man, Buchan, will have a full stadium some time… and apparently there will be some soccer to getsorted.

I think people already know exactly which routes to take to Boolands and where they want to park and braai for games there but this is not the case with the new stadium…

  • 78

73 – GG, Not sure but think depends on which section you sit.

I like the West Stand. They go for around R1200. Not bad mate as you get to see all S14, CC and all internationals. I have never got a season ticket as I travel back and forward from Joburg to my Umhlanga home but this year am going to spend most of my time in Umhlanga. In Joburg at the moment but should be back in Umhlanga in April. Now with the rubbish draw we have will wait until next to get a season ticket and only go to games I want to see there this year and there is not much. Probably will go to the Sharks/Blues anad Sharks/Stormers game.

  • 79

76@ Greenpoint Slugger – Flok, what SA Tennis Open… hehehehe

  • 80

76 – GG, It was held here at MonteCasino but never got to see any of it or on tv either. Think a French guy won it.

    Cricket update. SA 221/4

Seems we struggle to bowl them out. Need to get Badrinath or Dhoni. We get either one of them think we could get the others by tonight or early tomorrow.

    puma @ 75
    it was truly magnificent, puma
way, way better than newlands (imho)
getting out of the stadium is a breeze
hope the stormers/wp would really consider using it somewhere in the future

  • 83

Ahhhhhhh, 2 quick wickets down… Badriniwhatever and Dhoni… the 2 we wanted!

  • 84

Hehehehe, Saha also gone…. golden Duck!

  • 85

83 – GBS, DAMN MISSED IT. Now we in the pound seats.

    GO Proteas.

  • 86

Puma, I suppose thats not a bad price, but thats if you get to see an international and some top class S14 action.

    Whoop whoop, SA looking good.

GBS, dankie vir daai ene 😉

  • 87

82 – Ash, It looks a magnificent stadium. Only saw it on Boots the other night.

Would be a waste not to use it but then changing over will cause some heartache for WP supporters that love Newlands. Though from my brother that is a HUGE WP/Stormer fan (lives in Cape Town) says Newlands has seen its days and it is time to move over to the new one.

The MM stadium in Durbs looks really out of this world, but not sure if there is a oval ground there. I really like the Tank you sit so close up to the game. I know the new stadium everything will be brilliant and new but have my heart still at the Tank.

  • 88

86 – GG, I missed out HUGE last year. We played some top teams at the tank and all the All Blacks played there. So only got to see some of the S14 games. Was back in Joburg when we played the ABs. I did go to the first Lions test there. Then had to pay more for my seat as I was not a season ticket holder. So probably next year will get a ticket.

  • 89

    gbs @ 77
i’ve found the parking and traffic quite the opposite, but then i’ve arrived quite late for the game …
    but
as i’ve said … exiting the stadium was a breeze if you ever had the frustration of leaving newlands
