Welcome to day 2 of the Test between India and South Africa. Jacques Kallis has never hit a double ton before. A great opportunity for him today and if he and SA can stretch that total, it should be fun to watch how India respond.

Yesterday Kallis gave a masterclass as he scored 159 not out, his 34th test century, putting him joint third with Sunil Gavaskar and Brian Lara. Only Ricky Ponting (39) and Sachin Tendulkar (45) are ahead of him. His innings also took him past a thousand runs versus India in his 12th game against them, and a further landmark – a long sought after maiden double century – awaits him on the second morning.

Despite coming in at a parlous six for two, Kallis played with tremendous freedom as he scored 101 of South Africa’s first 150 runs, collecting 13 fours and two sixes in total as he produced an absolute masterclass.

Amla’s solidity at three has been one of the keys to South Africa’s success over the last few years and he batted with tremendous composure and application, sealing up his end so Kallis could play with often remarkable freedom.

The sumptious flicks off his legs were there and he also cut vigorously as he collected 11 fours in his 115 not out off 225 balls.

A top-class display of batting from the pair who have made a habit of sharing big partnerships brought them 285 runs in five-and-a-half hours in their third-wicket stand, a record for any wicket for South Africa against India.

Ben: “Question for Sehwag: Does India have the capability to take 20 SA wickets? Ouch…”

Current partnership 101 runs, 25.5 overs, RR: 3.90 (Amla 45, de Villiers 51)

I feel for Ashwill Prince, he is wasted up there. If he finally gets back his no 5 spot and he fails he will be branded as a has-been.

WELL DONE AMLA ON YOUR 200. BRILLIANT.

Also well done to AB on his 50.

    199, 203 Hassim you beaut

66 – Super, I feel for Prince too. He should never ever be opening. So wasted to open. If he could come in at 5 he would bat so much better there. Or why not swap with Amla? Let Amla open. He practically opens anyway with the openers going so quick.

  • 71

Come on Amla hit out and go to SAs first 300, please.
I love this type of sport stories… 😆

  • 72

69 – Super, run rate has picked up a lot since AB came in.

Maybe we do make our 600 tonight. Who knows.

  • 73

71 – Super, that would be damn awesome 😀

  • 74

Maybe 600 not for tonight, there goes AB.

  • 75

I hear ye Puma, i like what Amla do at 3 , i would not like to disturb the whole success story. But yes if he can come up and offer to fill that role i think that could work.

  • 76

AB is one guy who is willing to offer his wicket for the cause.

Sehwag to de Villiers, OUT, 84.6 kph, went down the track, reached out for the delivery well outside off stump and tried to loft it over the bowler but got a leading edge to backward point. Simple catch. Sehwag is delighted.

I feel that move must come from Amla

    Last Bat AB de Villiers c Badrinath b Sehwag 53 (88b 5×4 0x6) SR: 60.22
Fall of wicket: 454/4 (141.1 ov); Partnership: 108 runs, 27.5 overs, RR: 3.88 (Amla 49, de Villiers 53)

AB helped Amla a lot , he took it to the bowlers and the pressure was off Amla. We need another fast partnership, then the ball is in GS hand.

    West Indies 22/3 (6.0 ov)

Khan to Amla, FOUR, 122.8 kph, fullish, outside off stump line, Amla caresses it through covers. Flowing cover drive. Easy on the eye.

  • 81

Run rate slowed down since AB went out. Should have sent in Boucher before JP.

  • 82

75 – Super, It may work.

This is the prize we pay by playing Duminy out of form at 5/6 instead of a free scoring Prince. This is the time were we need to drive the nail in the coffin. Maybe let Boucher bat before Duminy and let Duminy become a all-rounder

  • 84

    Current partnership 14 runs, 7.0 overs, RR: 2.00 (Amla 8, Duminy 5)

I posted 83 before i read 81, we think the same, great minds….

  • 85

The ideal scenario would have been to go at 6 a over since the loss of ABs wicket and then let the Indians worry what we are going to do at tea time. being 520 at tea leaves you with much more options than the current situation.
We will have to bat to 550 at least

  • 86

    Current partnership 16 runs, 8.2 overs, RR: 1.92 (Amla 9, Duminy 5)

Duminy is on Amlas back, he is hampering him.

  • 87

oi oi oi this is frustrating we are playing into India,s hands

  • 88

Duminy fails with the bat again. Gone for 9.

Maybe he should come into bat last might do something there. For now I think Bouch should have come in before him, probably would have kept the run rate up too.

  • 89

Harbhajan Singh to Duminy, OUT, flighted from round the stumps, on the middle and leg line, Duminy misses the sweep shot and is struck right in front of the middle. Hawk eye suggests it would have bounced over the off stump. Hmm…

Thats what you get if you fiddle around, thank goodness he is gone, they better make a quick decision on his future. He looks all the more out of his depth.

    JP Duminy lbw b Harbhajan Singh 9 (35b 1×4 0x6) SR: 25.71
