Welcome to day 2 of the Test between India and South Africa. Jacques Kallis has never hit a double ton before. A great opportunity for him today and if he and SA can stretch that total, it should be fun to watch how India respond.

Yesterday Kallis gave a masterclass as he scored 159 not out, his 34th test century, putting him joint third with Sunil Gavaskar and Brian Lara. Only Ricky Ponting (39) and Sachin Tendulkar (45) are ahead of him. His innings also took him past a thousand runs versus India in his 12th game against them, and a further landmark – a long sought after maiden double century – awaits him on the second morning.

Despite coming in at a parlous six for two, Kallis played with tremendous freedom as he scored 101 of South Africa’s first 150 runs, collecting 13 fours and two sixes in total as he produced an absolute masterclass.

Amla’s solidity at three has been one of the keys to South Africa’s success over the last few years and he batted with tremendous composure and application, sealing up his end so Kallis could play with often remarkable freedom.

The sumptious flicks off his legs were there and he also cut vigorously as he collected 11 fours in his 115 not out off 225 balls.

A top-class display of batting from the pair who have made a habit of sharing big partnerships brought them 285 runs in five-and-a-half hours in their third-wicket stand, a record for any wicket for South Africa against India.

  • 32

Etenstyd India, ek gaan nou brekvis soek. Gesels later.

  • 33

Verklaar dan ‘n uur voor “close off play” so kort duskant 600.

  • 38

Super, sorry just went to get some breakfast.

Proteas on 379. Hope after lunch we can push on. AB needs too.

    Morning Snoek.

    Howzit Puma

    See your name up here.

  • 40

37 – Snoek the rate we going don’t see us getting 120 runs in the next session. Maybe by close tonight we may. Maybe AB needs to take it on there. Runs coming so slow.

  • 41

Puma, going to the game next weekend in Dbn. Looking forward to it. We are 15 friends going down to Dbn for the weekend. Hoping the Sharks play well.

  • 42

    40 – Puma

With Kallis out, the rate will definately up.

  • 43

Snoek stem saam 120 sal great wees in die volgende sessie.
I looked at the scoring rates of the BIG scores, Kallis is not super slow but still he can be more aggressive.

BC Lara 400* balls 582 West Indies v England
ML Hayden 380 balls 437 Australia v Zimbabwe
BC Lara 375 balls 538 West Indies v England
DJayawardene 374 balls 572 Sri Lanka v South Africa

    Kallis highest scores
    189* balls 443 v Zimbabwe Bulawayo
    186 balls 262 v New Zealand
    177 balls 344 v West Indies
    173 balls 351 v India Nagpur

Jp must hit himself back in form, be aggresive. He has no pressure today with a good score allready on the board.

  • 45

41 – Snoek, LUCKY you. That is a big crowd you going with Snoek should be great enjoy it. I am back up in Joburg drove back last Sunday.

Should be a really good game. One of the big games Sharks have at the tank this S14. Enjoy it boet, believe it was very, very hot and humid there yesterday. Hope not too humid for the game on Saturday. Makes it very difficult for good rugby.

  • 46

Just look at Haydens score and Kallis against Zimbabwe. Hayden almost double the runs with almost the same amount of balls

  • 47

42 – Snoek, it just may. Maybe AB will up the rate. Hoping otherwise maybe they go out quick and not enough runs on the board. So far so good. Always though, when one goes the rest seem to go quick.

  • 48

46 – Super, That is the way Kallis always bats, very slow a grafter like you say, but really was hoping he would have upped the rate a bit and got his 200. Think they were starting to struggle with the spin there. It seemed that way to me.

  • 49

The ball was spinning all right, but yesterday he played them well. There is definitely something in his mind when he gets to 150. Dont know why. He had a lot of time this morning against the quicks in fact he scored his first run after 40 minutes and about 25 balls.

But anyway its guys like me that adds to his pressure , the expectations of the nation. We want him there with the Laras and Sehwags…

Zeeshan: “I don’t know what surajit is thinking. Don’t all teams these days tend to declare half way into tea on the second day and still get results? Besides, with the middle order india have in this test match, it makes the job a lot easier as well compared to if all the regulars were playing.”
    123.1
Harbhajan Singh to Amla, 1 run, deepish cover, deepish lmid-off in place as Amla goes back to clip this towards deep midwicket
Surajit: “South Africa have played too slow. Even if they are able to declare after tea, they won’t get more than 10 overs to bowl today. I can’t see the Indian batting collapsing twice in the three days after that. Draw.”
