The Blue Bulls Company has released Vodacom Bulls lock Wilhelm Steenkamp on loan to the Sharks for the remainder of the Vodacom Super 14 competition.
Steenkamp, who has 19 Super Rugby caps, will return to his Pretoria base after completion of the competition.

He will again be available for selection for the Vodacom Blue Bulls once the Currie Cup season starts.

According to the BBC’s business and high performance manager, Ian Schwartz, a request from the Sharks to utilize the services of Steenkamp, was granted and Steenkamp will join the coastal side immediately.

“Wilhelm will get playing time at the Sharks, which will not only benefit the player, but South African rugby as a whole,” Schwartz said of Steenkamp, who last year also represented the Emerging Boks against the British and Irish Lions.

“The Sharks is in need of a top class lock and we have released Wilhelm due to our depth in that position. We have no doubt that he will add value to the Sharks in their campaign.”

Mmmmmm, all this happened yesterday whilst I was at Loftus speaking to Ian Schwartz… he was speaking to Rudolph Staeuli while I was in his office….

I phoned Tjarkie Fornever and told him about it, but the “Scoop” was still confidential… glad the Bulls announced it so quickly and helps a fellow SA side out.

Obviously, the Sharks are a lock or 2 short… whereas the Bulls have oodles of talent there…

This is how you co-operate…. some SA Teams should take notice and take a leaf from the Bulls book of fairness.

Glad for Steenkamp. Clever of the Bulls. No he has no excuse to leave the Bulls for greener pastures ala Burton Francis.

    GBS @2

You wouldn’t be hinting at the GLRU would you?

We all know they don’t need help. Their locks didn’t actually lose over half of their own lineout ball last week did they?

Come on. You know that Manie and Kevin have an ace up the sleeve.

Oh vlok, the sleeve got stolen with the ace in it. Gues the Lions will have to draft someone like Earl Rose into the lock position. DM doesn’t mind playing players out od position does he?

5@ Tjarkie – One could hear from the manner of the phone call that the atmosphere was one of friendship and co-operation…. well naturally I could only hear what Ian said…. but there never seemed to be hesitation, just clear helpful insight… I really am impressed!

4@ Scrumdown – Yip a bit of an admonishment to the Lions to be honest…. to be truly successful one must be prepared to let the sun shine on others too!
