Munster announced today that Jean de Villiers will return to South Africa at the end of the current season.

The decision to return home was determined by his desire to make himself available for selection for the South African 2011 World Cup squad, a situation Munster were aware of when they initially contracted de Villiers. De Villiers, who is currently abroad with the Munster squad on a warm-weather camp said, “My decision to return to South Africa is solely determined by a desire to put myself in contention for the Sprinboks RWC 2011 squad.

“I feel this is perhaps my last opportunity to represents my country at the Rugby World Cup and after consultation with SARU it has become clear that to qualify for selection players must be playing their rugby in South Africa in the season leading up to the competition.

” I’m thoroughly enjoying my time here in Munster and I think it would be fair to say that had the RWC not been a factor, then I would be remaining for at least the next 2 seasons. I would not rule out returning here after RWC 2011 either, if the opportunity arose.

“For now though,” he continued,” my entire focus is on the Magners League and Heineken Cup campaigns. There’s a lot of rugby to be played yet in the red shirt and I’m looking forward immensely to continuing my involvment with a great squad.”

Munster Chief Executive Garrett Fitzgerald in announcing the news said, “Jean missed the 2003 World Cup through injury and played just 40 minutes in 2007. So his desire to represent his country in the most prestigious rugby competition is totally understandable.

” Jean made us aware of this scenario before he joined us last September. He has been a hugely positive addition to the squad this season. His influence has grown and continues to grow as he becomes more and more comfortable within the squad.

“While he will be a major loss, we fully respect his ambition and he will leave us at the end of the season with our very best wishes.

This weekend is difficult to predict

Highlanders vs Blues…… Blues, I suppose… very difficult to call
Reds vs Cruaders….. Crusaders, with Bonus Point
Sharks vs Cheetahs…. Cheetahs… yip, I’m comfortable with that pick
Lions vs Chiefs…… Easy one, Chiefs with a Bonus Point
Hurricanes vs Force…. Canes, and they should get their Bonus Point
Bulls vs Brumbies… tough one, Bulls by not too many
Stormers vs Waratahs… Stormers, without a Bonus Point

    laxman: “o blimey, i did”
dhoni: “do you remember that curry we had for lunch, Vangipurappu Venkata Sai?”
    laxman: “of course, i do”
dhoni: “its no longer in my stomach!!”

    Stormers might lose it aswell.

Highlanders might come good against Blues.

The rest you’ve got right gbs…

Ash, you are back from the dead! Thank Goodness! Please go to the home page, I have a message for you.

  • 101

Oohh and I forgot to add…

The BULSS with a bonus point.

Watch this space… told you all last week already, everyone was sceptical then too…

The Bulls have got the right mindset !!!

99@ Blouste – Landers are an unknown quantity….. they can be gritty and stubborn and romp over you with their forwards…. or they can cower down and take it in the pooper, like they often do.

  • 103

    To true.

If the Tahs pitch for the game, and their forwards are on song, and I say if…

The Stormers might have a long day at the office aswell.

I’m not yet convinced of their forward powers…

    Time will tell.

  • 104

Blouste: when, today, are you going to remind me about how the Bulls scrum klapped the Cheetahs scrum?

  • 105

    blouste @ 103
as long as that song aint “liefling”

  • 106

    Loosehead

    It’s imprinted already…

See, you are reminding yourself 😆

  • 107

104@ Loskoppie – You think by now the Freestate Props have their heads out their arses already?

  • 108

current partnership 208 … think there must be some really frustrated s.african players on that pitch
mainly because, as with sehwag, laxman was dropped quite early on in his innings!!

  • 109

India lead now by 300, they might bat to 700 and humiliate us.

  • 110

109 – Super, if they bat to 700 and don’t declare before then. I hope we just bat forever for their arrogance to bat for so long……hahaha. Imagine if we can bat the two days out?? I would love that and save the test.

    blouste @ 111
    careful now!!
    thats a sensitive topic, bru!!

  • 114

Een ding van Naka hy kies sy span vroeg en kry klaar. Party coaches kan nie hul minds opmaak nie.

  • 115

Ashley to the bench….strange since he was according to some the next best thing after toast… 😆

    He was poor last week.
    His replaced by Viljoen.

Demas to wing…ouch…can blow hot or cold.

The one thing for me that stood out most last weekend is the fact that the Cheetahs don’t get distance on their line kicks…

Need to work on that I reckon.

  • 116

    So Mapoe is at 13

  • 117

    O and…

    Tewis de Bruyn…

Can’t understand that…Sarel Pretorius way better imo.

  • 118

    116 super

Going to be interesting, especially if he gets quality ball.

Like I mentioned earlier. If the Cheaters get the upper hand up front, it gonna be a long day for the Tjarks …

  • 119

    blouste @ 118
might just be … especially with nokwe, demas and mapoe there!!

  • 120
