Munster announced today that Jean de Villiers will return to South Africa at the end of the current season.
“I feel this is perhaps my last opportunity to represents my country at the Rugby World Cup and after consultation with SARU it has become clear that to qualify for selection players must be playing their rugby in South Africa in the season leading up to the competition.
”Β I’m thoroughly enjoying my time here in Munster and I think it would be fair to say that had the RWC not been a factor, then I would be remaining for at least the next 2 seasons. I would not rule out returning here after RWC 2011 either, if the opportunity arose.
“For now though,” he continued,”Β my entire focus is on the Magners League and Heineken Cup campaigns. There’s a lot of rugby to be played yet in the red shirt and I’m looking forward immensely to continuing my involvment with a great squad.”
Munster Chief Executive Garrett Fitzgerald in announcing the news said, “Jean missed the 2003 World Cup through injury and played just 40 minutes in 2007. So his desire to represent his country in the most prestigious rugby competition is totally understandable.
” Jean made us aware of this scenario before he joined us last September. He has been a hugely positive addition to the squad this season. His influence has grown and continues to grow as he becomes more and more comfortable within the squad.
“While he will be a major loss, we fully respect his ambition and he will leave us at the end of the season with our very best wishes.
Puma
Matfield said that he made a decision that money is not his primary obsession… but enjoying what you do whilst your earning it in terms of his and his families happiness is whats important for him at this stage in his life.
Also ( I’ve got no facts on this ) rumours have it that Matfield will get involved in some or other coaching capacity at the Bulls after his playing career.
So in the long run this might be the better option for him.
He also stated that he would want to do that.
59 – Yip with the endorsements he will earn quite a lot more.
58 – Probably right. Though Habs would have gone anyway. No amount of money was going to keep him I think. It was wanting to live in the Cape that drew him there. Think in his heart he must still feel like a Bull. Cant play for a franchise for so long win everything with them and just forget them. It is the lure of the beautiful mountains and the beautiful beaches in the Cape. Not their winter weather of course π
See that Jano Vermaak have started training.
This is very good news for the Lions !!!
Still some time before he’ll be able to play S14 though…
61 – Blouste, Think Matfield missed the Bulls and the SH rugby too. Also our lifestyle here and the beautiful weather we have, sometimes a bit too hot but we live a great lifestyle in SA it takes a lot of beating to live like this anywhere in the world.
62 Morning all, oh and of course I think it was more Mrs Habs that wanted to be in the Cape, and we all know what newly weds are like π
65 – Morning Tripps, Well that could have been it too.
We are doing rubbish at the moment in the crici. Going to lose this test I fear. Maybe by a innings too. What a shame after our great start by Petersen and Amla.
60@ SuperBul – Delaine se werk sal ‘n 15dbi Omnidirectional Antenna moet opsit, aan hulle kant, op die router… geen ander Netwerkkaart in die Notebookie self gaan ‘n merkwaardige verskil maak nie.
Ek hardloop hier by my eie hotspot so 500m ver met ‘n Ordentlike 15dbi Omnidirectional Antenna…
Mens kan geweldig ver konnekteer as jy die regte toerusting het…. vanaf Pietersburg na Dendron is so 60km soos die kraai vlieg, met directional Antennas beem ek tans al die pad, met 2 repeaters tussenin….. so met line of sight loop jy maklik genoeg 20km op ‘n slag
π :alien: π₯ π π
Still have to get used to these new smileys… π
71 – Blouste….hahaha. The thing with these smileys you cant really see what they are doing. Unless you go over them to check. Prefer the other ones. Have to try the poop one…..hehehehe. With these you get that one I remember.
Trying to see if it comes up now. :poop:
72 – hahahaha… Yip it did!!!!
The Sharks NEED a few decent backline players. JDV would fit in well there.
Is it just me or have you noticed how much worse the Sharks are doing since they stopped poaching players from the States and started poaching players from Argentina and π the Lions?
74 – Loosehead, don’t talk too soon. Mapoe and Nokwe and Brussow……..Phew!!!!!!!!!! would love us Sharkies to get em. Better pay them good otherwise we may come in the night and take em π
75 Puma- don’t try and make jokes with me in the week before the Cheetahs play the Sharks. Spend your time worrying about where you will find some locks, a backline and how many minutes the DuP’s will spend in the sin bin. GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Farkin Sharks!
Puma- and worry about your powder puff scrum. I am sure that Os klapped the living :poop: out of Wiaan and WP [what an unfortunate name].
I have a sneaky suspision that the Cheetahs might just beat the struggling Tjarkies when they play…
76 – Loosehead, Okay no jokes π π
Not going to worry about our Locks we have huge problems there now that Mostert is out injured. Think Muller will play though. Don’t even want to talk about the Dup brothers especially Bissie who cost us the game.
Never mind we will leave your wings and Brussow for now, will get em later π
Serious though hope none of that rubbish weather for this weeks game. Not good for either side really.
loosehead @ 76
lol, mΓ΄re kaapse vrystater!!
78 – GBS, Bugger off with you sneaky suspisions…. π as you were right last week with it but only just a tiny bit. Could have gone either way in the end.
This week I support all the SA sides except the farkin Tjarks.
Keep your grubby fish oil smelling hands off the Cheetahs players ok? Next week we can be friends…….this week not!
77 – Loosehead with John at Hooker our scrum will be fine. Actually with him at TH last week our scrum was not bad really. The trouble came from novice ref and us not keeping our discipline.
Morning Ash! May your team smash the Chiefs and show us all just how pathetic the Tjarks actually are.
GBS, I like the way you think! I might just send Puma a 530d to drive for the week.
82 – Same here Loosehead, this week I support every SA team but NOT EM Cheethas….hahahaha.
Go SHARKKKKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
83- now the Tjarks are blaming the ref! What next?
loosehead @ 84
dont be like that!! how can you even start to think that i’m a lions supporter? π₯
think i’m gonna hang myself now!!
goodbye guys!
goodbye cruel world!!
85- CHOKERS!
84 – Loosehead, Ash’s team are playing the Tahs bud….hehehe.
Lions are playing Chiefies…hahaha.
87-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Flok! Jammer my vriend! I will edit the post right away.
