Munster announced today that Jean de Villiers will return to South Africa at the end of the current season.

The decision to return home was determined by his desire to make himself available for selection for the South African 2011 World Cup squad, a situation Munster were aware of when they initially contracted de Villiers. De Villiers, who is currently abroad with the Munster squad on a warm-weather camp said, “My decision to return to South Africa is solely determined by a desire to put myself in contention for the Sprinboks RWC 2011 squad.

“I feel this is perhaps my last opportunity to represents my country at the Rugby World Cup and after consultation with SARU it has become clear that to qualify for selection players must be playing their rugby in South Africa in the season leading up to the competition.

” I’m thoroughly enjoying my time here in Munster and I think it would be fair to say that had the RWC not been a factor, then I would be remaining for at least the next 2 seasons. I would not rule out returning here after RWC 2011 either, if the opportunity arose.

“For now though,” he continued,” my entire focus is on the Magners League and Heineken Cup campaigns. There’s a lot of rugby to be played yet in the red shirt and I’m looking forward immensely to continuing my involvment with a great squad.”

Munster Chief Executive Garrett Fitzgerald in announcing the news said, “Jean missed the 2003 World Cup through injury and played just 40 minutes in 2007. So his desire to represent his country in the most prestigious rugby competition is totally understandable.

” Jean made us aware of this scenario before he joined us last September. He has been a hugely positive addition to the squad this season. His influence has grown and continues to grow as he becomes more and more comfortable within the squad.

“While he will be a major loss, we fully respect his ambition and he will leave us at the end of the season with our very best wishes.

    Hellooooooooooooo

How do you guys like the new links on the Left Hand Side?

  • 349

    346 – Winston, 😀

You missed all the banter today.

Hope our Sharks do a lot better this week against the Cheetahs. They have some real speed there with Mapoe, Nokwe and Demas. Their front row is very good and their loose trio, but think we can do it. With Ruan back at FH and hoping that Swannie starts we could. Also our discipline must be tops this week.

    348 – GBS, Never noticed…..hehehe.

350@ Puma – Just barely put them up an hour ago!

  • 353

352 – I have been browsing here so saw them. Very, neat idea to do that. As I go into The Sharks site a lot to look there whats happening, now just have to be here and click on the left. A step ahead of the rest again hey!!! Good one GBS.

353@ Puma – Here at Rugby-Talk we are officially affiliated to the SA Franchises… and properly accredited, so it’s only right that we have links to their sites.

In fact, tomorrow I will be picking up our official Bulls Accreditation at Loftus… and Sturday’s match thread will be handled straight from the Press Box at Loftus, much like we’ve done from Newlands and the New Cape Town Stadium already.

  • 355

354 – GBS, Nice one. This site is going really well but it must be hard work though.

  • 356

    355@ Puma – I won’t lie, it’s time consuming…. but most of the “extras” happen after hours…

But hey, we love rugby, right??

Centurion Wannenburg on live chat tomorrow
    16 February 2010 (17:35)

Pedrie Wannenburg will become the first Bulls player to play 100 Super Rugby games for his franchise when he runs out on the field against the Brumbies on Saturday. He will be available on live chat on the Bulls web site on Wednesday February 17th at 13h00 to answer questions on this milestone.

  • 358

356 – GBS, Yip and it is worth it boet.

Super just looked at that site you gave Piet to look at. Some really nice reading there. I was too young to remember anything of that tour 1965 was only 10. Still good to read that.

  • 359

Pietman was called Wiki-Pietman or something like that. He would know every player there , the dad, the garden engineer and the place they all live.

I also love old history, wish i can get into the Blue Bulls archives. i once said to Jan Oberholzer of another Bulls site we must get a few ardent Bulls supporters and go to Loftus and put everything into a computer.
