India won the first one day International played at Jaipur by one run.

South Africa needed to score 64 off 31 balls when number 10 batsman Dale Steyn walked to the crease. No one gave South Africa a hope in hell. Dale and Parnell scored a brilliant partnership  that took us to 8 runs short of a miraculous win. Parnell fought on gallantly and was run out in his attempt to draw the match. South Africa ended one run short.  Pfheeew My poor Heart.

Game start at 11:00 SA time

The Test series wasn’t closely fought – both teams won by an innings- in the conventional sense but the matches were intense and dramatic contests. It has, thus, left everybody hoping that the ODIs will be as interesting. Some key players are missing from both India and South Africa but, as Australia proved on their last trip here, the absence of personnel can be overcome.

Team news

Both teams have been hit hard by injuries: South Africa will miss Smith while India don’t have Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan. India’s injuries present more opportunities to the likes of Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina to cement their places in the side. Kohli had a superb outing in the tri-series in Bangladesh and the pressure is on Raina, whose stock slipped after a poor ICC World Twenty20.

Pitch and conditions

“We’ve prepared a batting wicket. It is a 270 wicket,” curator Taposh Chatterjee said. In the last game played here, India nearly chased Pakistan’s 306 and one can expect another run-fest. However, dew is expected to play a role and the teams batting second might have an advantage.

    India 298/9 (50 ov)
    South Africa 297 (50.0 ov)

India wins the game by 1 run

  • 302

Dhoni and the rest know they’ve prevailed and they wait for confirmation from the third umpire

  • 303

Think if only Steyn could have stayed we just may have won it. Well done to India but Steyn and Parnell really played a big part there. We almost done. Losing by only one run is very hard to take. Damn.

  • 304

Chaps I’ve got to catch my breath here! So near and yet so far for South Africa! You have to applaud Parnell and Steyn for not giving up. Really, India relaxed after the third Powerplay and weren’t prepared for this shock. SA feasted on the part-timers and the regular bowlers, except Praveen, couldn’t soak up the pressure

    Last Bat WD Parnell run out 49 (47b 4×4 1×6) SR: 104.25

See Puma never give up , never ever.
    This was close.

  • 308

Super I am looking again in slow mo. That seemed like it was a boundary to me. tv umpire saying no? Really looked at it a few times it hits the rope there. Sure of it.

  • 309

303 – Super, Wish I had your confidence mate. We almost done it. Actually thought we were going to until Steyn went out. Damn to lose by one point what a disappointment. So close and what a game.

  • 310

How many inches were we from a draw?
I did not watch a single ball , wife has got the TV. Time to get a dual decoder.

  • 311

    310
Talking about the run out, was Parnell close?

  • 312

306 – GBS, it almost lead me too………hahaha. Had to get a damn STRONG coffee…….hehehe. Too much for my heart these close games. We could have done it. Really thought we got that boundary there. If only Steyn never went out think we may have done it. Now at least we went down fighting. I like that not just fall away. Fight the Fight like we done in the last test too. Amla and Morkel fighting the fight all the way there.

Wow!!!!!!! this was a nail biter.

  • 313

311 – Super, No he was out.

  • 314

Nou ja, hier sit die mannne….met die lang gunne en die groot kanne 🙂

  • 315

310 – Super I thought we got that boundary. I have replayed it over and over. It looks to me like it hits the rope then his hand clears it. I am sure that was a boundary and we should have had a draw here. tv umpire said no. Not so sure about that. We just have to accept it.

The crowd were getting really restless they had to call in the security.

  • 318

Puma i hate losing, you maybe more with your rugby team making a habit of losing by 1. But the respect one have and what you gain makes up for a loss like that.

    India knows who we are.

The only thing that took them to this higher position in world cricket is our own fighter boy Gary Kirsten

318 – Super, I hate losing too but if we go down fighting then it feels well we tired our best and fought all the way.

Yip, My Sharkies have lost plenty by one hey!!!!! Not a nice feeling but we give it all we got.

Jeepers almost thought we would get it here. Turned back on when we were on about 40 needing around 80 runs. Something like that. Kallis was still in and thought we would do it. He got out but thought Steyn would make it for us. He got out and thought we were done. Still almost made it. Parnell is proving his worth with the bowling and batting. Pleased he is on board.

Think in the next odi we must play Amla. Not sure who has to be dropped though.

  • 327

324 – I know it is taking strain here……….hehehehe. Never knew it could be so addictive……hahaha.

  • 328

    meant 40 balls.

Chaps I’ve got to catch my breath here! So near and yet so far for South Africa! You have to applaud Parnell and Steyn for not giving up. Really, India relaxed after the third Powerplay and weren’t prepared for this shock. SA feasted on the part-timers and the regular bowlers, except Praveen, couldn’t soak up the pressure.
But South Africa will look back and wish at least one of them offered solid support to their captain. Time to bring back Amla. Kallis had too much on his plate.
Go back to the penultimate ball of the match, when Sachin tries to stop that boundary. Replays and camera angles weren’t conclusive. We may never know if that really was a boundary but India got the benefit of the doubt. Terrific effort from Sachin all the same to keep his nerve under pressure.
Stay with us for the presentation.
Kallis: “The guys down the order played unbelievably well. It came on a lot better at night but we lost wickets at the wrong time. It looked like India would get over 300 but our guys did well to keep them under that.”
Dhoni: “It was a team effort, overall quite happy with the batting but we need to be fractionally better with the bowler. Jadeja made the difference for us. We were left with just one part-timer, Raina, after Sehwag went off the field.”
Jadeja is the Man of the Match “I wanted to bowl stump to stump and not give easy runs to them. I was concentrating on the upcoming games (after being suspended from the IPL).
