The Bulls have named a formidable team to take on The Cheetahs on Friday night.
Bulls – 15 Zane Kirchner, 14 Gerhard van den Heever, 13 Jaco Pretorius, 12 Wynand Olivier, 11 Francois Hougaard, 10 Morné Steyn, 9 Fourie du Preez, 8 Pierre Spies, 7 Pedrie Wannenburg, 6 Deon Stegmann, 5 Victor Matfield (c), 4 Danie Rossouw, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 Gary Botha, 1 Gurthrö Steenkamp.
Subs: 16 Bandise Maku, 17 Bees Roux, 18 Flip vd Merwe, 19 Derick Kuün, 20 Heini Adams, 21 Jacques-Louis Potgieter, 22 Stephan Dippenaar
Hak Hak die Bulle gaan KAK!
I can see the Bulls [or is it Bull’s?] scrum going backwards with Steyn and Kirchner kicking all the possession away.
VRYSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!
Jaco Pretorius has not yet impressed at the Bulls. Francois Hougaard and Gerhard vd Heever is no Ndugane and Habana. Gurthro to take a Hiding.
otherwise, GOOOOOOOOOOOOD LUCK Cheetahs
The Bulls Team is exactly what and how I expected it to be chosen….
I would have made an important switch though…. I would have played Jaques-Louis Potgieter at No 12 and moved Wynand Meisiekind to No 13, relegating Jaco Pretorius to the bench…
I hope that Heyneke’s been instrumental in tightening up the Bulls front row…. we unfortunately have the Loosehead with the worst technique possible (Gurthro) and a Telly-Tubby Jelly Baby (Werner Kruger) at tight head anchoring the scrum against the best front row in the Super 14 competition….
I personally think Gary Botha is a stronger scrummager than Kuun ever was, so at least that will help a bit.
Go Bulls…. go biggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg !!
not aa bad bulls team at all
and i tend to agree with gbs re potgieter at 12
Maybe is Bees the answer to put some grunt in the front row?
Vrystaaat!!!!
Cannot ask for a better Super 14 opening game involving SA teams.
Solid Bulls team but they will have their hands full with the Cheetahs forwards and the BRUSSOW!!!!!
Yawn !!!
Julle grootbek Cheetahs gaan lekker op julle moer kry Vrydag…
En wat van julle grootbek Bulle? 😉

Bulls voorry is maar poofterig slotte kookwater loosies moeilik om te pyl ek dink dat dit els om fdp en steyn gaan draai as die cheetahs daar kan ontwrig gaan die bulle swaer leef
10 – Piet, Howzit how you doing boet? Are you settled in yet?

The Bulls captain leads a vastly experienced team in Friday’s opener against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein, with all 22 players having had experience of playing at that level.
“We all strive to improve. It is a fact that 2009 was a remarkable season, but the work ethic at the Bulls does not allow you to rest on your laurels,” said Matfield.
“We want to be the team with the best lineouts, we want the best scrum in the competition, and we want to play more positive rugby from broken play. I can continue, but what it boils down to is that we will never be satisfied.”
The vastly experienced Matfield, who will be playing his 96th Super rugby game, still has a clear message for his players.
“We simply have to adapt to the new applications of the laws. In 2008 we paid the price for not embracing the ELVs. When we embraced the laws last year, we were champions. There is a clear message in that in how we should approach the breakdowns.”
Matfield believes the emphasis on advantage for the attacking team can give 2010’s competition another dimension.
“It is clear that it is aimed at creating more phase play and to ensure more tries are scored. You’d swear the Brumbies wrote the laws. But the fact remains that we have to adapt immediately,” he said.
“I expect a few matches to be decided by penalties as a result of the application of the laws.”
Fortunately the Bulls have the accurate boot of flyhalf Morné Steyn if the Cheetahs transgress.
Coach Frans Ludeke picked all his first-choice players, but not five forwards on the bench as had been expected.
“We picked Derick Kuün, who is a utility forward and will help us adapt to the situation in the game. At the back Stephan Dippenaar gets a tick before John Mametsa as he is also capable of playing outside centre.”
The Bulls need not go too far to know what they will be faced with in their Super 14 opener against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Friday evening.
They have a Cheetah in the Bulls kraal in the form of Jacques-Louis Potgieter, who will start Friday’s match from the bench for the Bulls.
Potgieter rejoined the Bulls at the end of 2009 after spending two years with the Cheetahs, who had bought him from the Bulls.
It is highly unlikely that the Cheetahs have hatched a magic blueprint on how to beat the reigning champions.
Potgieter returned to Loftus Versfeld as he wanted to be part of a winning culture beyond the Currie Cup.
He believes the Cheetahs will approach Friday’s match in the same way they do any game against the Bulls, to prove a point and to measure themselves against the best.
“If anyone thinks it’s going to be a walk in the park then they must think again,” he said.
“It won’t be easy. When I was there, you know that there is a lot of emotion involved because it is a South African derby and there is a lot at stake.
“Pride and Super 14 positions come into it. It’s going to be tough and very physical. Saturday morning when we wake up there will certainly be bruises on the bodies.
“When the Cheetahs played them in the Currie Cup final, the Bulls had nine Springboks in their team and that in itself is a big challenge.
“You are testing yourself against the country’s best players and some of the best players in the world. It is always a big challenge.”
Potgieter will undoubtedly come in for some special attention from his former team mates but the blonde flyhalf who can also play at centre says he is a professional rugby player, not a part-time boxer.
“It’s a contact sport and guys will get emotional but I am not planning on getting into any fights or anything, that is not the type of person I am.
are there REALLY people that give a damn about the bulls? 😯
